I'm a Big fan off the various Flash and i was devastated when Barry died and my friend 1 day came to me telling me he was making a comeback i was ecstatic but the wait was unnerving so for some weeks i waited and finally it was in my hands, When i closed it i flipped back to the front and re-read it , after finishing my third round i began to feel my patience thinning, waiting for the second issue.

The opening scene had an ominous feel to it, the slow walking point of view, reading the thoughts of what seemed to be the confessions of a madman, the chemical spill hinted at an old enemy. it was nice to get an in depth look at Barry's past. and then the end that left me hanging just wanting a few more pages, Couldn't wait for the next issue

When I first heard Van Sciver dropped off of Blackest Night, I was pissed. then I heard he was doing this book, and I was excited once more. If you love the Flash mantle, you'll love this book. If you don't know too much about the Flash, or you're not sure about him, you'll love this book. Most readers today aren't entirely too familiar with Barry Allen. Or as I call him, CSI: Barry Allen. This issue is a lot more about Barry dealing with being back and being a part from the Speed Force more than anything. It also has a lot to do with how the other Flashes accept him, or how they don't accept him in the case of newly returned Bart Allen. Sure, there are some other things going on in this book such as the return of lesser known rogue Salvitar, but the main focus is on all the Flashes. For me, the two best parts of this issue were Jay's story about how Barry made him want to be the Flash again, and Barry & Hal reuniting at the Flash Museum. Obviously, this book is extremely well written, so far it may become my favorite Johns piece and Van Sciver's art is amazing as always.

Whether you only read DC, Marvel, or anything else. Whether you love or hate the Flash, pick this book up, it was great.

So when I heard about this title months ago, I put it on my pull list as soon as I could. I will be honest with you, I haven't read many titles with Barry in them. He was long dead before I started reading comic books, so a chance to read up on one of the greats was exciting.

So as for the story, Barry is back. People want to throw parties and parades for him and such. Yada yada. Nothing to exciting, a bunch of talk about how great he was, etc. Hal Jordan finds Barry at the Flash Museum and they have a conversation. In the end Barry runs off telling him that he can't attend any of the parties. While running Barry has a Flash back about his mothers death. Suddenly the villian Savitar jumps out from Barry's body and tries to run off. Barry reaches out and grabs him, and when he does it cause Savitar to age rapidly to dust. This also cause others around the world connected to the Speed Force to feel some sort of pain.

Over all I personally thought it was a good issue. I mean, not the best title I have ever read but it looks like it will lead into a good series. Now for the comic highlights:

    • Villains from the Flash Rogues Gallery seem to be gathering to discuss Barry's Return.
    • Gorrilla City was outraged by his return
    • Most heroes including JSA and Titans are excited about Barry's return and wanted to throw him a parties.
    • Bart Allen almost seemed angry about Barry's return.
    • Barry told Hal that he doesn't have time to stop, because he is on "borrowed" time.
    • Savitar told Barry that he was only the beginning as he start to decay.

    RETCON:
So as I said, I haven't really read many stories with Barry so I didn't notice this. But they show during a flashback, that Barry's mother was killed by his father. The reasons are unknown(maybe he was framed). But from what I understand, both Barry's parents lived long lives and even outlived the moment he got trapped in the Speed Force. So I can understand how for older fans of the character will be upset by this change. But if you are new to Barry, like me, you will not even notice this and enjoy the title.

This somewhat tedious reintroduction to Barry Allen as the Flash seems a laborious read at times. The issue thankfully has enough mystery, clever humor, and genuine drama between the scenes of forced nostalgia that it makes up for Flash: Rebirth #1's few shortcomings. From the violent opening act to Bart's indignation toward his grandfather's return to Barry being dumbfounded by the modern public's "speed", there are some very noteworthy scenes in "Lightning Strikes Twice." Van Sciver's art is beautiful, too, but you can catch a movie-esque inconsistency during the Hal Jordan and Barry reunion scene where Barry's shirt inexplicably changes colors from one page to the next.

Also, the ending of this first issue really leaves you wondering, "What the heck is going on with the Speed Force?" I have a feeling the coming chapters of this story are going to be much more interesting. Pick up this issue to acquaint yourself with the new story arc, because things are really going to heat up.
