Doctor Alchemy (Character)

Albert Desmond used a special gun to commit crimes as Mr. Element. Later, he discovered the fabled Philosopher's Stone and used it to do battle with a number of heroes, most often the Flash.

Albert Desmond

Albert Desmond was the director of the Central City Police Department's Forensics lab, he worked with Barry Allen often but the two never got along. One day while going through evidence he happened upon the legendary Sorcerer's Stone, it deeply affected him as he struggled with it's power and it caused a mental break and a second personality arose. The one side was Mr. Element, whose powerful element gun could create different trans-mutative effects out of thin air,, while his other personality was that of Dr. Alchemy, who had complete control over the Sorcerer's Stone.

Alvin Desmond

Alvin stole the Philosopher's Stone from the original Dr. Alchemy. He used it until the power seemed to wain. He figured out that the use of Prometheum with the philosopher's Stone will help him gain his power back. He found out that Dayton Industries in New York had some Prometheum and he found out it was being moved to S.T.A.R. Labs in Chicago. He followed the stone and even got a job at S.T.A.R. Labs and it was again moved to K.O.R.D. Incorporated. He then hired the Madmen to create a disturbance to steal the stone and was successful in battling off the Blue Beetle and getting away with the stone.

After a battle with the Blue Beetle in the modest apartment in Chicago Dr. Alchemy a.k.a. Alvin Desmond celebrates with a couple of beers. He thought about his weakness. He has power as long as he holds onto the promethium but if the Blue Beetle or anyone else knocks it out of his hands then he is powerless. Somehow he must fix this situation.

Alvin thought if he could absorb the power of his stone he would be able to use his powers without having to hold on to the stone. When he tried to do he was successful but, he was stricken with major pain. So much pain that he fled his apartment to get help.

He went to S.T.A.R. Labs to get help but he became so powerful that he couldn't fully control his power. He turned several men into lead, Sulfur, Gold, and Bronze. He knew he couldn't control his power for much longer and was going to try to get an experimental ion generator to siphon off his power. Unfortunately for him the Blue Beetle showed up and delayed him because he was afraid Alvin was going to turn the whole building into a smoking crater is he got near the ion cannon. Blue Beetle delayed him long enough that Alvin turned himself into a philosopher stone.
