    Origin

Peter is the son of J'Son of Spartax and the Earth woman Meredith Quill. Living on Earth, Peter's mother was killed by the Badoon because they wished to destroy J'Son's lineage.

Peter survived by finding his father's element gun, which many believe to be a simple toy, so he was able to keep it through the orphanages and foster homes he went through. His new motivation for space travel is to protect Earth from the Badoon.

Given a job by his mother's friend Lisa Chang, Peter got close enough to NASA to eventually steal a Kree vessel that he discovered how to operate and left for space. He was stranded and eventually met Yondu and the Ravagers and convinced them to let him join their pirate crew.

    Creation

Star Lord was created by Steve Englehart and Steve Gan and first appeared in Marvel Preview #4 (1976).

Star-Lord would later be reintroduced in Thanos #8 (2004) and this would eventually become the main Marvel universe (Earth-616) version of the character. All previous versions would be considered an alternate reality counterpart (Earth-791).

Peter's origin would be retold in the Marvel NOW! relaunch with some twists to the original, including the Badoon being the aliens that killed his mother and the absence of the Master of the Sun.

    Major Story Arcs

    Imprisoned at the Kyln

Star-Lord was confronted by the Fallen One who was the first herald of Galactus. Star-Lord did happen to subdue his much stronger opponent. But, a lot of lives where taken to provide the energy needed to stop the Fallen One. He was in guilt and gave up his Star-Lord identity. The collateral damage was 350,000 dead which ended up getting Starlord life imprisonment in the Kyln, a super prison on the edge of the universe.

In the Kyln, Starlord allied with Gladiator, who was there to watch over Kosmos, the mortal form of the Beyonder. With the help of Thanos, she was defeated but another great threat broke free of his imprisonment - the Fallen One. Gladiator conscripted Starlord into the Imperial Guard to help them with the Fallen One and Thanos.

    Annihilation

After he left the Imperial Guard, he became Nova 's main aide during the Annihilation Wave as part of the United Front. He became a valuable asset against the forces of Annihilus although he refused to speak about his past to anybody. He accompanied Nova and Phyla on the mission to kill Annihilus in which they succeeded after Phyla took the Quantum Bands and Nova ripped out Annihilus' insides.

After the Annihilation War, Peter Quill was hired by Ronan the Accuser to upgrade the Kree War Net. During the war, the War Net had been broken up into pieces and Quill was to unify it and make it stronger. They were offered an upgrade by the Galadorian Spaceknight Restitution Program and Quill brokered the deal. The envoy arrived on the Kree capital planet of Hala led by Daystar. After they integrated the two systems, during a test drill Kree Sentries shot down one of their own ships. Quill realized something was wrong and ordered the War Net to be shut down, but it was too late. The Phalanx transmode virus had already taken control of the entire empire.

During the events of Conquest, Quill was faced with a choice of imprisonment by the Kree for what he had brought on them or to form a team to carry out low-tech missions for them. Quill chose the latter and was forced to dawn his alias of Starlord once again. He created the team known as the Dirty Half-Dozen and fought against the Phalanx.

    Guardians Of The Galaxy

After Ultron and the Phalanx are defeated, Starlord forms the new Guardians of the Galaxy. The universe was in a very fragile state after the two Annihilation events and fissures in reality were beginning to form and spread. In order to prevent the collapse of the universe he had Mantis telepathically nudge Adam Warlock, Phyla-Vell, Rocket Raccoon, Drax and Gamora into joining his team. This motley crew set up base in the severed head of a Celestial called Knowhere. When Starlord's deception was found out everyone but Mantis quit the team in disgust and sat off on their own quests.

Starlord responded to a Kree summons and returned to the Kree homeworld to speak with Ronan. Upon arrival he is shocked to see that they are rebuilding the Phalanx Spire to protect Kree space, he argued with Ronan and then he was thrown into the Negative Zone. He was then forced into helping the newly appointed ruler of the Negative Zone, King Blastaar, into taking over the Superprison 42 so he could gain access to their portal to Earth. Starlord was sent into 42 to convince them to open the door and surrender. Once inside he spoke with the unofficial leaders of 42 and told them not to surrender, but only Jack Flag agreed with him. They tried to stop them but the doors were opened and Blastaar's army was unleashed; after learning of his betrayal Blastaar sent his men to find and kill Starlord. Running for their lives Starlord and Jack Flag located a telepath in 42 to ask the Guardians for help and they were able to escape before being killed by Blastaar.

    War of Kings

    Not as Planned
    Not as Planned

Once he returned to Knowhere, he found that Rocket had assembled a new team, consisting of Major Victory, Bug, Groot and Mantis. Eventually, the other members returned as well, Adam and Gamora returning in order to still help the universe, and Drax and Phyla returning with the newly resurrected Moondragon.

Their first order was to split up and attempt to end the War of Kings, which would cause irreparable damage to the fabric of the universe. Peter led his team to Hala to speak with the Inhumans. Even after telling them the dangers of their war, they refused. Phyla, who now called herself Martyr, had other ideas of negotiating and took Crystal hostage. Starlord could not get her to release her prisoner and they were teleported back to Knowhere. Upon their return, they soon found themselves in the middle of a battle with the Inhumans and the Imperial Guard, who had followed the other team back. After rescuing Crystal, the Inhumans left and the Guardians were left to face the Imperial Guard, who wished to take over the station. In the process of the battle, Starhawk escaped her captivity and took Starlord, Mantis, Bug, Jack Flag and Cosmo to her future.

In Starhawk's bleak future, she was finally able to convince them what she had been saying all along was true. A massive fissure was consuming the universe, and it had to be stopped. The two Guardians teams worked together to try to send a message back through time to warn that the fissure, known as the Fault, was actually caused during the War of Kings by Black Bolt. With their time machine broken, they formed a new plan. The Badoon, who know ruled what little was left of the universe, had enslaved the Celestials and created what was called the Celestial Engine, used to keep the fissure at bay. They send back their message and break the alignment of the Celestial Engine, causing the destruction of this future.

To Starlord's surprise, this did not kill them. They found themselves in a different time with a different set of Guardians. Another surprise: he was old enough to be his own grandfather. The Starhawk of this future received messages from his previous selves and learned the truth. The team was adrift in time, which was causing their changes as well. They formed a plan to find a time machine under Avengers Mansion, but once they got their they slipped through time once again. And again. And again. They finally arrived at an alternate future, one ruled by the Magus and the Universal Church of Truth. While battling the members of the Church, they had an unexpected guest: Kang the Conqueror. He returned them to their normal states and took them to his headquarters in limbo. He explained that all futures were becoming Magus futures and it was up to Starlord to stop this from happening.

    The Cost of Victory
    The Cost of Victory

Kang gave Peter a Cosmic Cube and told him that future must be saved at all costs. They were sent back to moments before Adam would turn into the Magus while repairing the Fault. Starlord tried to talk to Adam, but the damage had been done. He had overlapped the time lines and essentially he had been the Magus for months. Adam transformed and began his battle with the Guardians, who were all reunited. After killing Major Victory, Mantis, Cosmo, Gamora and Phyla, Starlord was finally able to grab the Cube and use it to revert the Magus back to Adam. Adam told him that he must finish him, and to his own regret, Starlord shot and killed his friend. The universe had been saved, but the price was very high. It was later revealed to Star-Lord that Magus faked his death along with the deaths of Peter's teammates and when Starlord had finally met up with them he found that they had none other than Thanos with them. It is explained that Thanos' body was placed in a cocoon by Adam Warlock. Phyla was tricked into hatching the egg by Maelstrom. Starlord than used what was left of his cosmic cube to knock the mindless Thanos out for the time being.

    Thanos Imperative

    BANG!
    BANG!

The Thanos Imperative After the Magus detonates several planets to open the Fault further, Peter comes up with a plan to use Thanos to defeat Magus and the inhabitants of the Cancerverse that are invading their Universe. Peter figures that since Thanos is the Avatar of Death that he can be used to bring death back into the Cancerverse.

Starlord and his Guardians then travel to the Cancerverse, but Thanos grows weak and ill because of the lack of Death in the universe, although he grew more powerful by the moment. They arrive to discover that the Defenders of the Realm cannot be killed by them. Thanos then attacks the Defenders and discovers that he can kill them because he is the Avatar of Death. Vision then arrives and brings the Guardians to Titan. He explains that the Captain Marvel of the Cancerverse survived the cancer by performing a ritual by sacrificing the Avatar of Death which turned all the heroes to energy and absorbed it. This killed Death in their Universe. Starlord believes that this is what Lord Mar-vell is trying to accomplish in their universe. Unable to contain his hatred for Thanos, Drax attacks Thanos and attaches a bomb onto him which explodes and reduces Thanos to a skeleton. But surprisingly Thanos regenerates completely which leads to the discovery that Death has once again cursed Thanos with life and can no longer die. Thanos than unleashes a powerful blast at Drax, killing him.

    Starlord's Final Stand
    Starlord's Final Stand

Lord Mar-Vell then sends his Revengers to kill Thanos and the Guardians. The Scarlet Witch of the Cancerverse sees her love Vision wounded and near death on the ground and opens a powerful explosion which knocks out all of the Revengers. Wanda reveals that she has been part of the resistance the whole time. She teleports Peter and Thanos to the site of the Necropsy Ritual. Before they can advance, Lord Mar-vell shows up with his Revengers and Thanos and Mar-vell go head on. Thanos easily handles Mar-vell but than releases him, pleading for his own death and betraying the Starlord and the heroes.

Mar-Vell begins his ritual sacrifice, but this time Death will not be cheated again. She destroys Mar-Vell in a massive blast that begins to destroy the entire Cancerverse. When Starlord notices that Death is ignoring Thanos, he knows this is going to be bad. While the others transport back to their universe, Starlord and Nova stay behind in order to stall Thanos long enough for the universe to collapse on them. This way Thanos cannot escape and threaten their universe. Taking his Cosmic Cube, he and Nova keep Thanos there long enough for the collapse, seemingly sacrificing themselves for the greater good of the universe. A service was held on Hala for the fallen, a statue of Starlord and Nova in memoriam created with the inscription "Guardians of the Galaxy".

    Marvel NOW!

    Marvel NOW! Star-Lord
    Marvel NOW! Star-Lord

Starlord escaped the Cancerverse implosion (along with Thanos, but not Richard Rider) during the Marvel NOW! reboot, changing his origin along with his appearance to be blonde.

He was back with the Guardians, when he heard form his father. Earth had been put on a "Off Limits" list to keep it safe, but Quill knew better. He knew his father just put a target on his home planet. He convinces the Guardians to come with him to Earth to help protect it from various incoming threats, teaming him up with Iron Man and Angela.

The biggest threat was the Shi'ar, who came looking for a young Jean Grey pulled from the timestream to sit trial for her actions as the Dark Phoenix. The Guardians accompany the other original time travelling X-Men and present day Kitty to the Shi'ar Empire to pull off a rescue mission, falling for Kitty in the process.

    Infinity

Peter leads the Guardians of the Galaxy into battle during the events of Infinity. When the forces of Thanos threaten Earth, the Guardians debate on what to do. After an argument, Gamora leaves the team, striking out on her own, while Peter and rest fly back to Earth.

They receive a transmission from Abigail Brand, Director of S.W.O.R.D. The space station known as the Peak was attacked and taken over by Thanos and his soldiers. The Peak has technology that is able to cast a shield over the entire planet. Thanos's generals need to extract the codes from Brand in order to lower the shield and invade. Despite their violent torture methods, Brand does not crack. She refuses to give them the codes. The Guardians decide to infiltrate the Peak in order to free Brand and stop Thanos's advance.

Peter and Rocket enter the station, undetected. They locate the room in which Brand is being tortured, and quickly free her. Meanwhile, Drax and Groot stand by for pickup in the Guardians' ship. Peter, Rocket, and Brand find themselves overwhelmed, and get to the control room quickly. Captain Marvel radios in on behalf of the Avengers, asking Quill to lower the world shield. Brand lowers the shield, and sets the Peak to self destruct.

Just when all seems lost, the mysterious Angela intervenes, tearing open a part of the Peak and taking down slews of Thanos's soldiers. Soon thereafter, Gamora returns. Her timely intervention gives Drax and Groot the time they need to pickup Peter, Rocket, and Abigail. The group flies down to Earth, as the Peak explodes behind them. It was a sacrifice to blow up the Peak, but it had weaponry that could be used to destroy Earth, and needed to be taken out. The Guardians then joined the Avengers on Earth to finish off the forces of Thanos the Conqueror.

    King Peter Quill

    Peter Quill, King of Spartax

Angry that the new ruling on Earth isn’t having the desired effect, J’Son arranges the Guardians to be split up. Luckily, Quill is saved by Captain Marvel from assassination. Together, they reunite the team and out J’Son as a murderer. In response, the Spartax Empire voted for a new leader: Peter Quill.

Quill ran from his political responsibilities, but he couldn’t keep a low profile because J’son sent hitmen, the Slaughter Squad, after him. He was saved by his new girlfriend, Kitty Pryde, and they discovered in J’son’s possession the Black Vortex, a mirror that allows users to reach their cosmic potential. Uneasy with the idea of J’son keeping it, Quill steals it so the Guardians and the X-Men could protect it together.

Unfortunately, they weren’t able to grab it before the Slaughter Squad amped up their power. The Vortex continued to exchange hands. Ronan the Accuser stole it from Gamora and used it to fight her and her X-Men cohorts. J’son stole it from Ronan, destroying Hala in the process, and allowed his ally, Thane, to use it. With his new powers, he was able to encase Spartax in amber. The Guardians stole it back yet again. Kitty submitted to it, using her cosmic phasing to move Spartax from the amber.

That is when Gara, the original user of the Vortex, came to collect it, first giving anyone a chance to undo their cosmic makeover, which all the Guardians agreed to. Afterward, Quill stopped avoiding his political responsibilities on Spartax, naming Kitty, now his fiancé, the new Star-Lord and putting Rocket in charge of the team.

The Guardians came to Quill’s defense when Hala the Accuser showed up on Spartax to charge Quill with the destruction of the Kree homeworld, Hala. The Guardians defeated Hala, but Quill’s political rivals used this as an opportunity to remove him from office. So, Quill escapes with the Guardians as a fugitive.

    Infinity Gems

    Quill killed by Gamora
    Quill killed by Gamora

Captain Marvel requested the help of the Guardians during Civil War II. Their spaceship was damaged in the process, and they were stranded on Earth. Tensions ran high when they found out Thanos was also being imprisoned on Earth, and Quill was pressured into revealing how he, Drax, and Thanos made it out of the Cancerverse. Because it meant Nova had sacrificed his life to open a portal out of the Cancerverse and that Quill kept it a secret that Thanos escaped too, the team disbanded, escaping Earth together but going their separate ways once in space.

It was long after that Gamora convinced them to reunite as thieves for the Grandmaster and the Collector. She believed the Soul Gem still had a piece of her soul that she wanted back, and the Elders of the Universe had the information to find it. They eventually crossed paths with Kang and Adam Warlock, who were already in possession of the Soul Gem. A fight ensued and Drax prevented Gamora from using the Soul Gem after feeling its powers. Feeling betrayed, Gamora abandoned her team.

Doctor Strange brings everyone who possesses an Infinity Gem together in Central Park, including Quill and the Guardians, who have the Power Gem, when Gamora kills Thanos. Quill's gem proves to be fake, as Gamora shows up with the gem on the hilt of her sword. Quickly she kills Quill (who is saved by Strange), bonds with the missing piece of her soul, and dispatches all her challengers (including nearby Avengers) by combining pairs of them into single individuals and trapping them in a pocket dimension for Devondra, the Soul-Eater inside the Soul Gem, to consume. Quill was combined with his teammate Groot to become Peet.

However, Loki is sent to Warp World without being combined with anyone and retains his memory of their home world. He is able to rouse the warped heroes and some un-warped heroes to fight back against Gamora, eventually returning them all to their home reality. Emma Frost even goes as far as to wipe their memories.

In the aftermath, Drax was purged of his destroyer personality, living happily as Arthur Douglas in a preserved Warp World, while the rest of the team went their separate ways.

    Final Gauntlet

Still hurt over Gamora’s betrayal, Quill is wandering space, drunk, with Groot, who is now able to speak. However, Rocket is inexplicably missing. While being questioned by a Nova Corpsman over a missing Knowhere, they hear that a “Thanos meeting” has been attacked.

    Quill introduces his new team
    Quill introduces his new team

The “Thanos meeting” was a reading of the last will and testament of Thanos. Instead, Thanos revealed he implanted his consciousness in another body in case he died, his “Final Gauntlet.” The reading was attacked by a weaponized Knowhere controlled by the Black Order. They stole Thanos’ body and opened up a rift in space and time with a black hole gun. Many of the heroes in attendance were pulled through.

Beta Ray Bill and alternate reality versions of Phyla-Vell and Moondragon (brought to this world during Warp World drama) are rescued by Quill and Groot and reveal the prevailing theory of Gamora being the Final Gauntlet. The team agrees to protect Gamora, so they head for Halfworld with Groot taking command.

Their reunion with Gamora was short-lived when Nova crash-landed. He had been attacked by the Dark Guardians, other survivors from the Thanos Meeting bent on killing Gamora before she could become the new Thanos. They followed Nova and were able to snatch Gamora from the Guardians.

The Guardians catch up to the Dark Guardians, but they had been played by Starfox, who turned out to be the Final Gauntlet. He was taken by the Black Order to Hela, who had reconstructed Thanos’ body and planned to transfer Thanos’ consciousness from Starfox back to his original body. The two teams combined into one super Guardians team to stop the transfer. Gamora kills Starfox, but Thanos’ body awakens with pure instinct. That’s when they use the black hole gun on Thanos body, destroying it yet again.

In the wake of this, Quill pitches to the new roster that they should stay together.

    Faithless

The Guardians were having some much needed R and R when they received a distress call from J’son. He said the Nova Corps was wiped out by a version of the Universal Church from the future and now Spartax is at war and losing. The distress call ends with J’son seemingly attacked. The Guardians go to investigate but most of them, including Quill, are brainwashed into believers by J’son, the brainwashed new patriarch. Moondragon and Groot were able to escape and went looking for Rocket for help. The problem is, Rocket was dying, the reason he abandoned the Guardians in the first place.

When they confront the Church, they are attacked by an army of Drax clones, created by the Church. When Rocket freed everyone from the faith-generator that powers the Church, the generator grabbed all the Drax clones, leaving just one. Moondragon forced everyone’s collective memory of Drax into the clone’s body, transforming him into the Drax they all knew. Rocket also re-engineered the ship to travel back to the time it came from.

With the threat ended, Quill and the team were able to get Rocket to a hospital where he can finally be healed, thus reuniting the team once again.

    Master of the Sun

Quill travels back to his home dimension
Quill travels back to his home dimension

Nova sought out the Guardians when Olympians from Earth were plaguing the universe. They were reborn after being exterminated by Nyx. Gamora turned him down for all the Guardians, but Quill and Rocket snuck away to join the fight anyway. They planned on using a black hole bomb on their ship, but the plan went south rather quickly. The gods were able to steal the black hole bomb and disable the timer forcing Quill to choose to manually set it off, killing himself in the process.

The black hole bomb teleports Quill to another dimension where he has a vision of the Master of the Sun, a figure from his past who originally chose him to be the Star-Lord but was explained away as a memory implant. He found himself in Morinus, the Land Beyond the Sun, in the care of two nomads, Aradia and Mors. In this new world, Quill's gun doesn't seem to need a charge and is making even more complex elements than it had before, thanks to siphoning the power of the Olympians just before detonation.

He joins them on many adventures for years (over 140 years in total), one of which he lost his eye again. Aradia and Mors were in a romantic relationship, however, their culture is one of sharing and offered to include Quill on many occasions. At first he declined remembering Gamora, but after 12 years, Quill made their partnership a polyamorous one. After 143 years, the Olympians finally caught up to the trio to take their power back from Quill.

To save his new home dimension from the Olympians, threatening to burn it all down, Quill entered a pool gateway that would bring him to his home dimension. Crossing over, the truth became clear. He is now the Master of the Sun and his Element Gun is a prism to focus his power through. Unfortunately, the Olympians were able to follow him. Luckily, he manifested near the his old team who needed help fighting off symbiote dragons.

    Guardian Again

Quill stands ready with his new-old team
Quill stands ready with his new-old team

Quill gathered the Guardians together, now with new members during his time away, much shorter in this universe than the 144 years that he was in the other one. Together the team was able to beat the Olympians, to the surprise of the Galactic Council. They had sent Super-Skrull with an army to fight the Olympians if the Guardians failed. Because they didn't failed, the Guardians were offered the chance to replace the Nova Corps as the galaxy's premiere peace-keeping group.

Quill was overlooked for leader in favor of Nova since Quill was still getting his bearings in this new world. Gamora, still grieving his loss, was ready to start their relationship where it left off, however, Quill had spent years away from her falling in love with another two people and having a son.

One of the Guardians first official cases was investigating a Skrull blood cult performing a ritual on Ego the Living Planet. Their ritual turned Ego into a giant black egg that hatched ten days later revealing a planet sized Dormammu.

    The Last Annihilation

When Dormammu hatched and attacked various worlds, Star-Lord was stuck on Mars at the end of the Hellfire Gala with Nova. They were meeting with Krakoa as representatives of the Galactic Council, and once they got word of the attack, Nova was forced to leave without Quill since Quill wouldn't survive Nova's faster than light travel.

Quill would eventually catch up and join a squad of Guardians who had allied with Dr. Doom. Doom had discovered that the planets Dormammu was attacking created a pentagram on a star chart. Quill's squad headed to the fifth planet (the only one they hadn't heard from), Chitarui Prime. Once there, Doom assembled this squad for a spell as a cosmic tarot, with Quill as the "The Sun's Master," but wise man and holy fool.

Together, they drained Dormammu of his magic energy. Once enough was taken, Doom teleported his fellow Guardians to multiple battlefronts. Quill was sent to Shi'ar space where Gamora and Nova were waiting. They combined Quill's mastery of the sun with Rich's Nova Force and Gamora's aim to shoot Dormammu with a magic bullet.

With peace over the galaxy, Quill and his family ponder a much needed vacation.

    Grootfall

    Guardians of Grootspace
    Guardians of Grootspace

Quill and the Guardians were building their reputation as official peacekeepers when they were joined by Nebula. She wanted to prove herself and put her probability machine to good use finding problems for the Guardians to squash. One of her first targets ended up being Groot's dying homeworld where he received a god-like ability to cultivate his people, causing him to go feral and attack a region called the Manifold Territories. The Guardians tried to stop him, but they suffered heavy losses, including the death of Moondragon. After being stranded in the Manifold Territories, Quill felt guilty that he had used their warship as a way to stop Groot, stranding them in the first place.

Quill and the Guardians did their best to protect that people of the territories, nicknamed The Fold. Unfortunately, this often meant evacuating them to a different planetoid within the The Fold. When Quill thinks Groot is communicating with them, he convinces the others to try to communicate back. This causes them to be absorbed by Groot and learn the truth, that Groot hasn't killed anyone or destroyed anywhere. It is all just waiting to bloom, and The Guardians vow to protect Grootspace until it can.

When Hulking and Wiccan investigate their deaths and find them alive, they choose to trust their friends and cover them with the Galactic Council. Unfortunately, it does not work with the Spartoi, who already had one war party repelled by the Guardians. The Guardians did their best to distract them, but they had a secret weapon: a ship with an exploding power core. Drax sacrificed himself to steer the ship away, just in the nick of time, as Groot finally bloomed, returning everyone believed wiped out.

    Origin

Once there was a man called Prince Jason of Spartoi, and he was wrongly accused of being a traitor by his father. This action caused Jason to run away. When war broke out Jason was asked to come back home. But on the way home Jason's ship converter blew out. He then had to make a crash landing in the Earth's Colorado Mountains. A woman named Meredith Quill helped him out of the ship. She would get him back on his feet and help rebuild his ship. He fell in love with her and conceived a child. In order to return to the war he had to leave Meredith behind so she wouldn't get hurt. Jason locked her memories so that she would be spared the pain he felt.

Meredith married her high school sweetheart Jake, but when she had the child Jake didn't believe it was his. She named the child Peter Jason. Jake told her the child looked nothing like him or her. Jake then tried to kill the child but on the way outside he died from a heart attack. Meredith would then spend most of her time doing nothing but raising her son. When Peter was little he often loved to watch many NASA and space shows.

When the war against Spartoi and Ariguan had been in Spartoi's favor, Jason asked his uncle Gareth to bring his family to him. But, instead Gareth put a hit on the Quill family. When Peter was eleven he saw men come in and kill his mother. The men left not knowing Peter was there. Peter swore that he would kill those men. Gareth had told Jason that his family had died during birth. Peter with much hope ran away from his orphanage to go to a greater destiny.

    Becoming Star-Lord

After Peter had left the orphanage, he started to study and even ended up graduating college. He was then accepted into the NASA space astronaut training program. Peter still had a lack of social skills. Once, after saving a fellow student from an accident he yelled at the kid for being stupid and not saving himself. Soon enough Peter was being sent to a new space station and Peter was finally in space. He loved being in space but, while he was up there he remembered about his goal to take revenge on the men who killed his mom. When there was a project called Star-Lord, Peter volunteered. Earth was trying to stop Peter from doing it saying he didn't have enough experience. Refusing not to go he stole a ship and headed back to Eve which was the space station. Shooting his way into the spot where he needed to be. When he got there he saw another man trying to be in the Star-Lord program. He then threw the man out of the way and Peter was transported away.

Later, he met up with the Master of the Sun who then turned Peter into Star Lord. He then let Peter go to take revenge. Peter then was seen destroying the same ship that landed where he lived. His master then told him to start a new life and gave him a sentient former star named Ship which would help guide him. Later Ship took Peter to his dads future time. There Peter saw Ariguan slavers who would destroy whole planets and take people as slaves. Peter then helped a revolt team with revolt leaders Kip and Sandy. Together, they tracked the leader of the slavers Kyras Shakati, who was killed when he nearly treacherously killed Starlord.

Peter then raced to his fathers home planet Sparta, after learning of the plot to overthrow the Emperor. It was here that he was met by the coup leader, Gareth, uncle of Jason of Sparta and the Ariguan Rruothk'ar. Peter quickly remembered that Rruothk'ar was the man who killed his mother and charged in anger, killing the reptilian. Peter then crossed swords with Gareth. Gareth took off Peters mask and saw he looked a lot like Jason. But, then Peter killed him and that's when Jason found him. Jason told Peter that he was his father. Jason was so happy Peter was there and asked him to become the empires heir but, Peter refused him.

    Going to Outer Space

Much later, a Ariguan assault force started to attack the Master of the Sun, Star-Lord came to help him. But, he found out that his master was Ariguan himself and that by creating Star-Lord he betrayed his people and must face punishment. Peter accepted what the Master of the Sun had to do. Peter returned to his fathers home planet to be at Jason's 100th coronation jubilee. He regretted that he never got to know his father. Now, he and his father left to explore the universe together.

Quill had been self-exiling after his mistake allowed the Universal Church of Truth (now led by Galactus) to destroy Spartax, including his wife and children. His Guardian teammates tracked him down and forced him out of his retirement to help them find the Ultimate Nullifier on Earth so they could end the Universal Church for good. Only, when they crash landed on Earth, the planet was much different. It was a Wasteland, missing its greatest heroes

As they travel, Quill starts making a name for himself liberating shanty towns from the local thugs oppressing them, getting the attention of Dr. Doom, the leader of this new world. They also got the attention of the Shi’ar Imperial Guard, now enforcers for the Universal Church, who had tracked Quill to Earth. Quill and his team made it to the Baxter Building before either caught up with them, however, Quill finally made peace with the fact that the Guardians were dead and his fellow travelers were figments of his imagination.

Quill was going to be executed publicly for defying Doom, but it was interrupted by Galactus and the Universal Church finally showing up. With everyone panic-stricken, Quill jammed the time stone into a six shooter and shot Galactus in the head. Without a leader, the Universal Church retreated. With a new found sense of hope, Quill sent a message out to the cosmos to old allies looking to rebuild the Guardians.

In the film, Peter Quill is abducted from Earth as a child in the 1980s, and is raised by Yondu as part of his band of space pirates. He is arrested, along with Gamora, Groot, and Rocket for fighting in public over a precious orb Gamora was trying to take for Ronan the Accuser. In prison, they meet Drax the Destroyer and they all hatch a plan to steal the orb and escape from the prison to stop Ronan from taking over the galaxy.

Peter Quill is the leader of this team of outlaws and also a love-interest for Gamora. Pratt plays Star-Lord in a smart, witty, and entertaining manner that does justice to the character, the team, and the movie.

Near the beginning of the film, the Guardians encounter Thor after his Asgardian refugee ship has been destroyed by Thanos, who stole the Space Stone from Loki. After learning that Thanos is collecting the Infinity Stones so that he can complete the Infinity Gauntlet and wipe out half of all life in the universe, the Guardians head to Knowhere to protect the Collector and the Reality Stone. Before heading inside, Gamora makes Peter promise that he will kill her if Thanos captures her. The Guardians arrive at Knowhere too late, eventually realizing that Thanos has already dispatched the Collector and stolen the Reality Stone. After Thanos escapes with Gamora as his captive, Star-Lord and the other Guardians head to Titan to get her back.

On Titan, Star-Lord and the others encounter Doctor Strange and several members of the Avengers, who have come to defeat Thanos after the Black Order's attack on Earth. Together, the Avengers and the Guardians set a trap for Thanos, hoping to ensnare him long enough to steal the Infinity Gauntlet. After a pitched battle, the heroes are able to temporarily subdue Thanos and begin removing the Gauntlet from his hand. However, after learning that Gamora is dead, Peter loses control and attacks Thanos, which wakes the villain up and allows him to fight back. Peter and the others are ultimately defeated, and Thanos departs from Titan with the Time Stone, which had been in the possession of Strange. After Thanos collects the final Infinity Stone in Wakanda and activates the Infinity Gauntlet, Peter is one of the 50% of sentient beings who perish.

He and the other Guardians take part during the battle against a earlier version of Thanos' army at Avengers Compound, which had time traveled to the present. With their full might, the heroes ultimately emerge victorious.

At the close of the film, Star-Lord and the other Guardians depart Earth and head off into space to find the 2014 version of Gamora, who disappeared after Thanos' defeat. He is last again seen arguing with Thor, who seems to consider himself the team's true leader.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Chris Pratt reprises Star-Lord in the second sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy and the final MCU film of James Gunn. Quill starts the movie in a rough place having lost Gamora and finding a new Gamora, that wasn't in love with him. He blames this distraction for an injury Rocket receives that needs the help of the scientist that created Rocket in the first place.

Unusually, this movie does not end with "The Guardians of the Galaxy with return" and instead ends with "The Legendary Star-Lord will return" instead.
