Watchmen and 300 are mediocre films in a critical sense, the guy just films as close to possible what the comics panels are - not what we need in Marvel films which draws from many sources.
Bryan Singer and Matthew Vaughn are both very talented filmakers, and while I'm sure they'll redeem the franchise from the lows of X3 and Wolverine, I don't see them hitting the heights of the first two films. Time will tell, and quickly it seems!
The guy knows how to perfectly balance the importance of his characters, and has a penchant for having strong female leads, since we dont have such a thing in the Avengers, (Wasp maybe) I think he'll do a great job of representing the "big 3"
I'd like to see to see Namor, Human Torch, Bucky and Toro. To me it's the best way to tie it into Avengers ( dealing with the concepts of super-powers and super-teams) Part of me would like to see John Walker in it as well, then he could become U.S.Agent in the next film. In the same way they treated Rhodes in the Iron Man films.
To be blunt all of these actors are pretty rotten and I'd be very dissappointed if Marvel went with any of them. Though wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised by an awesome portrayal of Steve. If I HAD to choose from this bunch, I'd go with John Krasinski, Scott Porter or Ryan Phillippe.
