My biggest problem with this is that they are seemingly ignoring the fact that Jean had manifested the Phoenix during "New X-men" and had a handle over it.

Wolverine saying; "This thing killed Summers' girl". Wasn't it Xorn posing as Magneto?

Cyclops says "the last time we dealt with the Phoenix we were young and foolish..." Erm...no you were not. You were a senior staff member at the school and starting an affair with Emma Frost, you were all grown Cyke!

So, do Marvel just ignore what they like?

Once agin I read a review of yours that is incredibly negative and then you give a positive quantitative score. I'm baffled, surely a 1/5?

"It was a good movie. Not a great one..."

Then you give an overall 4 out of 5 score? Colour me confused by your wavering opinion.

X-men: First Class, now being the fifth film to be based on the X-men franchise, stands right alongside X2 as the best of it's kind. If you were worried about this film, you're fears will be washed away. It impressed me even more than Thor (which I loved).

It has a great director, producer and cast, the only continuity issue I see is Emma Frost inclusion in this and Wolverine Origins, which frankly doesn't bother me as that film bombed critically and commercially. It's not unheard of for a film series to dis-regard a particular instalment.

The choice of characters is very clever, either using the "older" characters or parents/relatives of pre-established characters is the best way to strengthen the series as a whole. I'm "iffy" with Angel Salvadore's inclusion.

As for respecting the source material, it does a damn good job. I don't want to see my comic frame for frame regurgitated on screen, Zack Snyder tried that and received middling response for 300.
This is neither the 616 nor the Ultimate universe. This is the movie universe, and Bryan Singer has already brought us two incredible installments of it. My hopes are high he does it a third time.

We don't know if Denis Leary and Martin Sheen are going to "pale in comparison" to Bruce and Stan, seeing as the film is about a year away, that's mere speculation at this point. If I for some reason I lost track of the film's plot because a well known celebrity turned up in a film for a minute, I'd begin to question my intelligence.

Well to crack out my back issues there's an exchange between Xavier and Juggernaut that goes like this;

Juggernaut - "And maybe I could join up with the X-men, too, you know. Be the muscle. It's not like a "mutant only" thing or somethin'"

Xavier - "It'snot actually a rule or anything,no."

So whilst there is no restriction, I would like to see a more pure mutants book. I don't need characters who appear in several other titles!

I can't help but find myself on side with ghostfly70

People say things like he's unlikeable, or doesn't have the look? How would any of us know this if we haven't seen him in the costume, or even playing the part?

Now these guys are actors! (Unlike the Captain America candidates) I'd want Frank Dillane most out of these guys.

Alvin Sargent is actually one of the finest writers in Hollywood, having him in this project actually makes me feel comforted ( I saw no need to reboot this series, Spider-man 3 was merely a mis-step). James Vanderbilt on the other hand is what one other poster described as "craptastic", ever seen Basic or The Losers? Critically speaking, they're both pretty bad. He wrote both of those.

What I want in this film, is for us to be introduced to all the key players, obviously keep the focus on Peter/M.J./Harry and Norman, but I also want to see Brock, Doc. Ock, Gwen and so on. I don't want to see a remake of the first Spider-man film!
