    Prelude

Shortly after the events of Blackest Night, Guy Gardner sees prophecies of the future due to residual effects of briefly becoming part of the Red Lantern Corps that involve an unknown entity capturing all the Lantern Corps Entities, leading to a great civil war that will wreak havoc through out the Green Lantern Corps. He seeks the help of Ganthet who suggest they visit Atrocitus, leader of the Red Lanterns, who reveals has seen the same vision. The three make an unsettling blood pact in order to try and prevent the chaotic future from happening.

Elsewhere, the unknown figure who is capturing the Entities makes his presence known on earth by attacking Hal Jordan with a Parallax infected Barry Allen. After a brief fight, and with members of the Blue Lantern Corps, Indigo Tribe, and Orange Lantern Corps intervening, the unknown figure manages to capture Adara and Proselyte, adding them to his collection of Parallax and Ion. The figure then reveals himself to be Krona, the renegade guardian.

    Overview

Finding out that Hal Jordan is working with members of the "unsanctioned" lantern corps, the Guardians of the Universe send a team of Green Lanterns to arrest Jordan on Ryut, where he and the other New Guardians have found the Book of the Black, kept by Lyssa Drak. The Book of the Black manages to capture all the New Guardians but Jordan. Meanwhile, on Oa, Krona returns and attacks the Guardians, possessing them with the Emotional Embodiments, and returning Parallax to the Central Power Battery, restoring the impurity within the Green Power Rings. Krona is then able to control all of the Green Lanterns, minus Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Kilowog, and Ganthet, as they had already been possessed by Parallax before, and show a slight resistance to the fear embodiment's effect. Kyle Rayner and John Stewart began to feel the effects of the Kronas influence though and began to fight as well as Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner. Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner were able to meet on a Safe House planet that the Green Lantern Corps established just in case the security of Oa was put into jeopardy. Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner duked it out for a bit before they both decided that they needed take off their rings in order to avoid Krona being able to extend his influence on them. Ganthet blew up his hand in order to remove the rings from both Kyle Rayner and John Stewart before they killed each other. Hal Jordan was able to activate a ship that was located on the safe house planet and made his way to Oa with Guy Gardner. Once there, Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner and John Stewart are able to meet up and Hal pulls out the rings that the other Guardians of the Emotional Spectrum dropped before they were sucked into the Book of the Dead. He suggest that since they were unable to weld their Green Power Rings in order to escape Kronas influence they should each wield one of the powers rings from the other Corps. Hal Jordan takes the Yellow Spectrum, Kyle Rayner accepts the Blue Spectrum. John Stewart accepts the Indigo Spectrum (although his first choice was to take the Orange Spectrum but Hal explained to him how much it would change him and how it just did not go with John Stewarts personality) and Guy Gardner accepts the Red Spectrum Ring. As the Earth Lanterns accept the rings they are attacked by a squadron of Green Lanterns and are forced to go deeper into the heart of Oa underground. While attempting to reach the core of Oa Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner come across an old antique room that was built by the Guardians that none of the lanterns knew about. In this room there were many objects including an old Manhunter robot and also the first piece of technology that was used to harness the willpower of the Green Light Spectrum. This device is held to be even more powerful than a Green Lantern ring by itself as when Guy put it on he stated that it felt as if he had 10 Green Lantern power rings on. Moments later though they are attacked by an older Green Lantern who had been put there by the Guardians in order to protect the facility and especially the Krona Guantlet. Kyle stops the fight and convinces the Lantern that they are indeed allies and that they were not attempting to steal anything. The attacker leaves and moments later a computer comes online and shows that Mogo is creating a massive amount of Green Lantern rings and sending them to different sectors all over the Universe. Kyle at this points sides with John and tell the other Lanterns that this has now become their most pressing matter since Kronas army is growing by the minute soon there will be thousands of beings on Oa under Kronas control hunting them down and the War will be lost. John then uses his ring to transport Kyle and himself to Mogo (an ability that is inherent among the rings of the Indigo tribe).

Jordan and Gardner eventually make their way to Oa, meeting with Rayner and Stewart. Unable to use their Green Power rings due to Parallax's influence, Jordan suggests they use the rings of the other corps Jordan took from Ryut. Jordan dawns the Sinestro Corps Ring, Gardner the Red, Stewart the Indigo, and Rayner the Blue. The four former Green Lanterns decide to try and extract Parallax from the Green Power Battery, but have to fight off a Prallax controlled Mogo and Emotional Embodiment possessed Guardians of the Universe in the process. Kyle and the other Earth Lanterns go underground in order to escape the onslaught of the mind controlled Green Lanterns. While there they attempt to devise a plan of attack when the Earth Lanterns reach a fork in the road. Hal believes that the primary mission was to remove Parallax from the Central Battery and John believes that their biggest threat at that moment in time was the planet Green Lantern Mogo. An argument ensues and Kyle attempts to calm everyone down and tells them that it should be put to a vote. They all decide that they should head to the Central Battery and attempt to remove Parallax and Hals rings shows them the path to travel underground in order to reach it. On their way there they notice an underground facility constructed by the Guardians that hold some of their most darkest secrets. There is an old inactive Manhunter there as well as the Krona Gauntlet. The Krona Gauntlet was the first piece of technology created that had the ability tap into the energy of Will and create constructs based upon a users thoughts. This device is held to be even powerful than a Green Lantern ring by itself as when Guy put it on he stated that it felt as if he had 10 Green Lantern rings on. Moments later though they are attacked by an older Green Lantern who had been put there by the Guardians in order to protect the facility and especially the Krona Guantlet. Kyle stops the fight and convinces the Lantern that they are indeed allies and that they were not attempting to steal anything. John then uses his ring to transport Kyle and himself to Mogo (an ability that is inherent among the rings of the Indigo tribe). Once they arrive there they are almost immediately attack and the plunge into the core of Mogo in order to help restore him. Mogo attempts to access their thoughts and create constructs of people that they care about and attempts to convince them to go back but they press on. Once they reach Mogos center Kyle attempts to cure his mind using the energy of the Blue Lantern ring to no success. They notice that the energy of the Black Lanterns is causing interference since towards the end of Black Night Mogo took in their energies while they were attacking him and stated that they would burn at his core for all Eternity. Seeing that there is no way to cure Mogo and that he is too far under Kronas control John decided to tap into the power of the Black energy and uses it to form a weapon and destroys Mogo completely. Kyle, horrified by Johns actions, attempts to gather pieces of Mogo together in order to restart his core but they fall apart. Later on John and Kyle meet back with Hal and Guy and Ganthet and attempt to use the full power of all the different Corps ring to crack open the Central Power battery and release Parallax. While their combined effort was unable to continue as they were under attack by other Corps members. Guy Gardner with the Red Ring of Rage and the Star Sapphire Ring of Compassion manages to break open the Central Battery and releases Parallax from the Central Power Battery. The other Lanterns are then broken from Kronas control and being preparations for their final showdown with the New Guardian Entities and Krona. In the final battle against the renegade Guardian Krona, Kyle was able to use the Book of Black by drawing a picture inside of it essentially "willing" the other New Guardians back into the normal realm. When they returned their rings went to Krona and as he was about to give the final killing blow to Hal Jordan and Sinestro, Hal somehow managed to kill him first, finally ending the War of the Green Lanterns.
