Comic Vine Friday Wrap-Up 12/19/08

Some of the happenings around the 'Vine this past week.

Are you ready for the Holidays?
Are you ready for the Holidays?
Another week has flown by.  We're getting closer to the end of the year.

On Saturday, we all got to discover an amazing site CheapAssTrades.  It seems you can search for places that have dirt cheap prices.  Someone let me know how well it worked for you when you receive your books.  Sounds great though.
The child in me was happy on Sunday upon seeing the latest images from the Where The Wild Things Are movie due in October.
In some slightly annoying news, it seems Kenneth Branagh still hasn't made any decisions on casting for Thor.  Wonder if Loki will be male of female.
On Monday we got a nice clear version of the Wolverine Origins trailer.  I think it's safe to say everyone was pleased, especially with Gambit & Deadpool.
News came out about a new Crow movie that would re-imagine the character.  Most of us are extremely uneasy about the idea.
Marvel continues trying to keep us in suspense with the mystery of the Dark Avengers and Mighty Avengers.  The New Avengers line-up will soon be revealed.
In what started some crazy rumors, Rachel Weisz's name was mentioned as Catwoman in Batman 3. Later came some crazy Riddler and Robin rumors.
The talk of Shia LaBeouf as Yorick Brown in Y: The Last Man brought out both fans and non-fans of LaBeaof.
Paramount released some G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra movie posters.  They went with a sort of artsy look and I like it.  My fingers are crossed.
I posted my phone call interview with Will Friedle, best known for [currently] voicing Blue Beetle, Batman Beyond, and appearing in Boy Meets World.
The Watchmen trial has been moved back a couple weeks.  We're all hoping it won't affect the March 6 release date.
We shared a little peak at an average day at the Comic Vine office as Red L.A.M.P. and I had a discussion about hairstyles in comics.
Cowboy Bebop fans around the world all screamed, "Noooooooo!" as Keanu Reeves mentioned his interest in playing Spike Spiegel.
In some Iron Man rumors, we may see Tim Robbins as Howard Stark, Hawkeye and Black Widow, and (doubtfully) John Cho as the Mandarin.
The President of Warner Bros. said that a Green Lantern movie could be the next superhero movie we'll see from them.
And Frank Miller wants to add his mark on Buck Rogers as movie terms are being negotiated.

Reviews
Another week, another Amber video review!  This time it's for Buffy the Vampire Slayer #20.  I still say I'd love to see more user video reviews!
dmstarz is continuing his countdown of favorite issues.
Not a lot of current issues reviewed.  When do you guys pick up your comics?

Blogs
Inferiorego posted some concept art for his comic, Bunch Of Capes, that may be appearing here soon.
fesak updated us on his war against dupes.
Methos wasn't too happy with Doomsday's appearance on Smallville.
Talon/X23 posted the beginning of her origin and continued throughout the week.
Lady Nightmare is bummed out.

RPGs
Looks like we have a new female hangout, Rosebud Academy Campus.  It's been stated for 'girls only' so guys should respect this.
Dark Reign also started up.  Things have been hopping there.

What's Happening At Our Other Sites?

Giant Bomb
  • Valkyria Chronicles isn't selling as well as its makers would like, apparently...which is a shame, because it's a beautiful game. (Meanwhile, I'm contributing to the not-buying by, uh, not having bought it. Oops!)

  • Meanwhile, Metal Gear Solid is going iPhone. You can now also buy an iSnake cover for the iPhone-- it's a cardboard box. (Badum-ting!)

  • Finally, Brad reviews the latest entry in the Prince of Persia franchise, which looks pretty and apparently has excellent gameplay. He overall recommends it as a way to get back into the franchise if you've dropped out.

Anime Vice

It should be interesting to see what next week holds for us.  Will things in the news slow down for the holidays?
