You're here because you want to see exciting action sequences and that's exactly what we're going to give you. (What can I say? We're nice like that.) This week, we're highlighting a fun bit of chaos, a harsh fight between two friends, and a bloody encounter. Once you're done reading the article (or just looking at the pictures; we won't judge you), don't forget to chime in and tell the world what your top three battles are from this week's new comics!

No Caption Provided

ALL-NEW HAWKEYE #1

It's time for the mind behind several oh-so-awesome Green Arrow stories to leap into Clint Barton and Kate Bishop's world! As totally expected, Jeff Lemire, Ramon Perez, and Ian Herring's first issue is off to a strong start. Half of the story is focused on gorgeous and emotional flashbacks, and the other half is simply pure fun as the two heroes kick, punch, stab and shoot their way through a sea of enemies. If you ever wanted to see the two archers take on an absurd amount of useless HYDRA goons, you're about to be very, very happy.

We're rooting for the dude with the burger.
We're rooting for the dude with the burger.

Pretty worthless, aren't they? I mean, we're talking about the duo leaping into the middle of what seems to be well over a dozen of these baddies and they're effortlessly taking down everything in their way. In fact, they seem way more focused on their conversation and not on the armed villains who are trying to kill them. But hey, they're clearly going for a more lighthearted tone with this part of the book and it works. Even though some enemies are getting impaled by arrows, it's all handled in a very fun and exciting way. I mean, just look at that dude's face in the bottom left panel as Clint slugs him. Funny yet awesome, right? More and more enemies flood their way, but the two don't even seem to be the slightest bit worried about all of the nameless goons rushing at them. They're still far more focused on the banter. Spidey would be proud.

Are these HYDRA forces or Monarch henchmen?
Are these HYDRA forces or Monarch henchmen?

Because one can never have too much of heroes absolutely destroying fodder, there's even more pages full of Clint and Kate absolutely wrecking these unfortunate fools. At this point, I've lost track of how many bad guys they've dropped and it looks like they haven't even broken a sweat yet. Good thing they brought a bunch of arrows, right?

"Hold on, Clint. I'm busy making sure this one guy will never be able to talk again."

What lurks behind Project Communion's doors? What do the trips into Clint's youth reveal? ALL-NEW HAWKEYE #1 is a great beginning for the new run. Sure, it's odd this is coming out beforeMatt Fraction and David Aja's run ends, but don't worry, it doesn't drop any spoilers about how that'll concludes.

GREEN LANTERN #40

Heroes fighting heroes isn't anything new. Usually there's a misunderstanding or someone is brainwashed -- it's something we've seen a thousand times before. But that's not the case here. There's a ton of weight and emotion behind the brawl between Hal Jordan and Kilowog in Robert Venditti, Billy Tan, Mark Irwin, and Tony Avina's latest chapter of GREEN LANTERN. We don't want to spoil the plot, so all we'll say is Hal wants to make a drastic decision and leave Mogo. Kilowog supports the decision, but he says Hal needs to get through him first if he wants to follow through with the plan. Armed with Krona's Gauntlet, Hal gives the big guy a punch to the face. But to the alien ring-slinger, the strike is just a "love tap" and he demands for Hal to do better than that.

KiloWHAM.
KiloWHAM.

The last thing Hal wants to do is harm his friend, but Kilowog convinces the poozer to step up and give him everything he's got. Once Hal lands another strike, Kilowog creates a shield, but it isn't nearly enough to hold back the Green Lantern from Earth. Hal shatters it with ease and follows through with an absolutely brutal punch. The visual team makes it crystal clear just how much force is behind that fist when it smashes against Kilowog's face.

No Caption Provided

Hal doesn't let up; not even a little bit. His friend demanded for him to hold nothing back and that's exactly what he does. It's a jaw-dropping yet heartbreaking scene as Hal does what he needs to do, unleashing harsh hit after harsh hit. Even while he's being pummeled, Kilowog still has a taunt left in him. You can't help but love the big fellow.

"THROW THE TOWEL! THROW THE TOWEL!"

It definitely looks like that'll put Kilowog down for the count, doesn't it? But what happens next and what are the specifics behind Hal's plan? It's a solid issue, so we strongly recommend checking it out. Plus, what happens immediately after the above scene is pretty touching.

RETURN OF THE LIVING DEADPOOL #2

Last but absolutely not least is all of the violent madness that comes from Cullen Bunn and Nicole Virella's second issue of RETURN OF THE LIVING DEADPOOL. As if a world full of the undead wasn't bad enough, there's now an evergrowing amount of evil Wade Wilson clones. Liz, a survivor who bumped into the good and original Merc with a Mouth (or at least we're assuming he's the original one), wants to use explosives to stop a train that may be transporting her family and other human survivors. Deadpool has a better (and less Michael Bay-ish) plan: sneak into the train and stab everyone that's in their way. Prepare yourself for Deadpool fighting Deadpools.

Major credit to that Deadpool for trash talking instead of screaming in fear.
Major credit to that Deadpool for trash talking instead of screaming in fear.

One Deadpool down, two to go. Wade may be outnumbered, but it's clear his clones aren't nearly as talented at this whole murder thing as he is. They may be armed and they may be in a confined area, but they just don't have Wade's awesome moves and he's even able to use their numbers against them. Hey, it's another move that Spidey would be proud of! Well, he's probably against the whole stabbing in the chest thing, but he's a big fan of using his enemies against each other!

The merc with a mouth. The devourer of chimichangas. The ruiner of card games.
The merc with a mouth. The devourer of chimichangas. The ruiner of card games.

The dude with the ax is quickly decapitated and then throw off the train, but that still leaves one enemy to deal with. Sure, he may have a weapon impaled in his chest, but when has that ever stopped someone with an accelerated healing factor? One of Deadpool's things is the fact he can get stabbed a whole lot and still chew your ear off. Okay, maybe "chew your ear off" wasn't the best choice of words since this series takes place during the zombie apocalypse, but you get my point. Anyway, it turns out Deadpool can hang back with this one because his teammate has it covered. Swing away, Liz.

Hey, it's kind of like that time [REDACTED] was killed in THE WALKING DEAD.
Hey, it's kind of like that time [REDACTED] was killed in THE WALKING DEAD.

Those three Deadpool clones were a cakewalk, but what else is waiting for them in that train? Spoiler alert: the answer is something scary and then something seriously creepy and twisted. It's a frightening world out there and the opening reveals there's even another threat Deadpool has to worry about. Jeez, it's a rough time to be Wade. He's apparently going to die over in the 616 universe and he's struggling to survive in this one! Well, at least he has his own movie on the way.

I'm kind of surprised Green Arrow wasn't here, pretty much the whole issue was a battle, and it was a pretty good ending to a mediocre story

and as for Hydra being Monarch henchmen

@vinomonster: Why didn't you nominate it? :(

Also, don't forget to make nominations every week in the official thread or tell usvia Twitter.

That's important -- we can't read every single comic each week!

Even though I loved this week's Hawkeye, I wouldn't say the fights were worth highlighting.

Obviously, I respectfully disagree. I mean, 50% of the issue is them owning fodder! Enjoyed it way more than the other options being considered.

I read it but didn't think there was enough to break it into 3 highlights.

@sodamyat: Or at least for battles.

So, I'm guessing nothing amazing fighty-wise in Nailbiter/Hack/Slash or Princess Leia # 1?

@earthsmightiest: "still no love for Valiant" he says to the writer who gave the first two issues of IMPERIUM 5-stars, wrote an article promoting THE VALIANT, placed IMPERIUM in "best of the month" and essential comics, and has highlighted Valiant's work in this segment plenty of times before. And Mat gave the latest X-O 4-stars. Yup, "no love."

The first sentence seems to imply otherwise, man. I feel like if the objective is to promote Valiant, it would have been every bit as effective without the first sentence. I take offense because, over the years, I've spent a lot of time and energy doing what I can do promote Valiant (because they're consistently awesome), so it bothers me when I see someone imply we don't give the publisher any love just because sometimes they don't appear in a segment.

The Hawkeye fight was cool, I liked Katherine stabbing the guy in the chin with an arrow.

The GL fight really wasn't a fight because Kilowog let Hal win.

I'm debating on buying that DP book based on that fight alone.

So much for me participating in this week's battle selections with my lofty goal of thinking I'd get my suggestion in on time. I even got a twitter account and everything. I'm giving myself an internet cookie, anyway. (:P)

Here is my late, but I think worthy contribution:

Angela, Assassin of Asgard Issue #4, with the Guardians of the Galaxy helping out their mysterious friend against the Disir:

Here they are, in all their glory...
Here they are, in all their glory...
...and there is Angela, taking care of business.

So freaking bad_ss, right? Love her. Nothing for nothing, folks.
