In a flashback to when Matt was a child, we learn that Battlin' Jack, Matt's father, was killed by the mob for not taking a dive in a match he was paid off to lose.
In the present, nurse Claire Temple finds Matt's body in a dumpster after his recent attempt to rescue the kidnapped boy. She takes him to her apartment and treats his wounds. But time is running out for the missing boy.
