im cautiously optimistic...

if this is R-rated in 3D and successful this could revive Del Toro's Mountains of Madness movie

I am shocked due to the fact Conan does not have a silly accent... but the snakes actually look worse in this one.

#5 Posted by Iron_Turtle (582 posts) - - Show Bio

I'm actually fairly interested.

Wow, i would say that Conan successfully has me more excited than Thor's Asgardian future-confused film.

#8 Posted by yeopop (609 posts) - - Show Bio

Boring trailer.

#9 Posted by MagusMaleficus (25 posts) - - Show Bio

The ghost of Robert E. Howard farts in this film's general direction.

Conan vs Thor... INTERESTINGLY BORING!
#11 Posted by antiterra (165 posts) - - Show Bio

That's the actor who plays Drogo in Game of Thrones, right? Give him the lead in a He-Man movie and that'll make him the official go-to guy for big, brawny, bare-chested barbarian-type dudes.

By the way, what's become of the Red Sonja movie that was in preparation a few years ago? Has it vanished into limbo?

#12 Posted by Trodorne (2499 posts) - - Show Bio

by KROM that is awesome!

#13 Posted by -Vigil- (380 posts) - - Show Bio

I hate Conan but... go Jason Momoa!

#14 Posted by -Vigil- (380 posts) - - Show Bio
@antiterra:  He played one in Stargate Atlantis for years...
#15 Posted by antiterra (165 posts) - - Show Bio
@-Vigil-:
Didn't know that, I never watched SG Atlantis. I guess he already has a cinch on the job, then. :)

Looks pretty dire.  The fighting reminds me of bad 90s action TV - lots of prancing and spinning, little by way of real violence.  If you told me this was made by the same people who made those The Mummy movies, I'd believe you.

The fact that it is throwing canon out the window blows too.  Why pay for to license the character and world if you aren't going to use it?  I think I can safely ignore this one now.

Also wish his hair looked less 'glamorous', and more like the character's traditional sorta goofy black hair from the Frazetta covers.

Seems like it could be either hit or miss with this...I may try it

Yup yup.

(did anyone else think Rose somewhat resembled Evil Lyn?)
#20 Posted by Sobe Cin (596 posts) - - Show Bio
@Gambler:
Took me a minute into the trailer to realize that was Rose- but yes she does.

As for the rest. The movie looks- at least it looks a little more promising than GL.

if it's Pg-13 I won't be going now if it's rated R and full of violence then I will. the reason being is PG-13 movies are the ones Douche bag teenagers go to and talk through the whole thing or play with their stupid little phones basically ruin the whole film for everybody else
#22 Posted by bjmorga (46 posts) - - Show Bio

Huge Conan fan, but my god does this look bad. The metal soundtrack does it no favors.

#23 Edited by The Black Hood (88 posts) - - Show Bio

Conan is WAAAAY too dancy.  I hate that since 300 and Troy every badass fighter now has to leap around like a Kangaroo regardless of how large a sword they are wielding.  I want my Conan like Arnold, Big, Brutal, and Deliberate.  Not every swordsman needs to be a fruity martial artist.

I completely agree

not so much, i've never seen anyone that looks like she does in this film

This (even though I'll have to take Hood's word on those movies), and

This.

Way to "filmography"-ed for me.  To bright and flashy :(  Not Conan.

not buff enough

#29 Posted by Decept-O (7294 posts) - - Show Bio

@RedheadedAtrocitus:
I'm with you on this one.

I don't know why, perhaps there's too much pre-judgment about this already.

Yes, it'd be great to have an incredibly huge and buff dude as Conan but where will you find a suitable actor of the same physical build as Arnold was during the original movies?  I know there are indeed muscle bound actors but this guy doesn't look slim by any means.

Rose McGowan is in it, so honestly, I will probably see it.

#30 Posted by JonesDeini (3501 posts) - - Show Bio

Looks like pretty standard action, fantasy fair. But I expect nothing more from a Conan flick. The originals are cult classics but objectively were silly, mindless films, so they don't have much "legacy" to live up to artistically. As long as this guy kills lots and lots of people with a sword it should be enjoyable to myself and fellow fans.

#31 Posted by G-Man (18920 posts) - - Show Bio
@sladewilson30: It'll be out (in 3D) on August 19.

agreed and the guy playing Conan just doesn't fit, he would be better as Kull. The rest of the movie looks pretty cool though. If they wanted a smaller guy Manu Bennett would have been better from Spartacus, he has the barbarian look and he can pull off the hair.

This movie's going to look better than the old.

#34 Posted by ssejllenrad (12790 posts) - - Show Bio

I wonder if the classic "Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you! !" line will be alluded here.

#35 Posted by The_Peter_Cosmic (401 posts) - - Show Bio

It's mini Conan.

Sooo you true conan fans of the 1st films understand Robert E. Howard wrote conan lean as a panther not arnold?Masive yes he was suposed to be over 6'2".

Even here  http://www.conan.com/invboard/index.php?showtopic=7816&st=0 they came around mostly he looks the part.Which is a neet read as how things changed as they seen more of a change in looks.Maybe look how barry winsdor smith drew him realy close to the books,Which i own.

"Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing." — Robert E. Howard, The Tower of the Elephant (1933)

Trailers not the greatest but other stuff i seen makes me have some hope it be pretty good.

@Marshal Victory:  Arnold might not have been true to the character size wise but he did fill the role and bring a certain believability to the character and he set a standard for peoples expectations of a barbarian. I still think my pick of Manu Bennett as Conan would have been better then who they picked due to his size, physique and facial features, that jaw line of his and facial movements just work for him when he is swinging a sword. I'm still shocked they gave Jason Momoa a leading role in a feature film, all he has done is tv, come on Baywatch for gods sakes, he did well in Stargate: Atlantis but not well enough to get lead in a movie with this much history and such high expectations from fans and his role in Game of Thorns so far has been ok but he has an extremely easy part in the show since he doesn't really talk or do much more then have quick fights or have a little rough yet boring sex.

FANTASY EPIC!
#42 Posted by Metro_Man (583 posts) - - Show Bio

What a waste... I hope it is better than it looks.  They should have named it something else aswell. A better movie already has that title.  The 1st Arnold Conan movie, was a great film.  The 2nd not so much, but I still enjoyed it.
#43 Posted by Marshal Victory (676 posts) - - Show Bio

@pikahyper:
Hey i liked the cheese that was arnolds movies. But some are saying that the new one looks like a b movie an realy just dont get that. When they was posting pics with dreadlocks i had doubts. But now after seeing some pics an action not in that trailer im ok with it.An yeah  Manu Bennett  woulda been a good pick i agree with ya their.Any idea if he did try out for it?

Some were saying get the guy from conan the adventurer

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralf_M%C3%B6ller but their not understanding time keeps on ticking out side of film .Hes in his 50s now.Which reminds me i realy do need to try an watch conan the adventurer  on huluu some time.

Hopeing for 80% or more of the books.Doubting will see more than 50% . But the whole looks generic fantasy thing.. Where does every one thing that came from?Conan,Lord of the rings, an one shouldnt forget Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser.Any thing genric fantasy sword an sorcery came from them imho.

Can we all agree the poster looks awsome tho?

#45 Posted by Stahlbrand (8 posts) - - Show Bio
@Marshal Victory: I think I can agree with that.  Wouldn't be the first movie where the poster was better than the film (is likely to be).
#46 Posted by DownZero82 (40 posts) - - Show Bio

Looks super lame!

#47 Posted by weaponmaster (1401 posts) - - Show Bio

Looks like it will be a reasonably good movie. The guy looks the part, although he is stil a tad bit too small for Conan and he spits a lot when he talks.

 I also fear that...

Anyone know the song that plays in the trailer? I think I've heard it before.

The points about how Arnold was better are pretty bad. I'm a big Conan fan and this guy is more of a good fit size-wise and speech wise. Remember a lot of Arnold's dialogue was cut because he wasn't fluent in English yet. Also Conan was always supposed to be a fast brute fighter with a low voice that would build to explosions of laughter and rage.
This guy is more in line with the vision of Conan, hopefully he can act and the script is good.

" Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet" -- The Nemedian Chronicles

#50 Posted by weaponmaster (1401 posts) - - Show Bio

He looks the part facially but is still a little too small muscularity-wise. It looks like it will be a good movie though.
