Kull the Conqueror was created by Robert E Howard in a story called the Shadow Kingdom published in Weird Tales in August, 1929.

After being banned from his island for taking the defense of a woman promised to public burning, Kull heads for the continent where he offers his swordsman talents until he finally becomes king.

HIstory

Could be the ancestor of Conan.
