An alien who comes to be known as Doctor Tachyon inadvertently releases a virus on Earth that becomes known as the Wild Cards Virus. Upon contracting the virus, people get one of several effects:
- Ace - Super powers.
- Black Queen - Death. Often painful and messy death.
- Joker - Physical mutation/deformation.
- Deuce - A joker mutation, but with some kind of power- usually something minor like only being visible from others' peripheral vision, or being able to screw a lightbulb into their elbow and make it light up (both actual deuce powers).
The virus is airborn, and was spread worldwide. It is indiscriminate, irreversible, and changes the world forever.
