    Spider-Ham #1

    *POSSIBLE SPOILERS* ...you were warned.

I love funny animal comics in general. My three favorites though have to be Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew, Marvel's ten-issue Mighty Mouse, and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham. So when I saw Spider-Ham #1 on the shelf, I had to check it out.

I have to be honest: the jerk version of Spider-Ham that's come about since 2015 is funny at times, but mostly, it's a poor replacement for Howard the Duck. I just want 'Ham to be fun. In this issue, he's really over-the-top in the self-importance role, and that causes most of the trouble. The animal versions of other Marvel characters are fun to see, but this issue was just set-up, so it's hard to give it a good review and rating.

That said, I'm going to go with two stars. I really want to go with 1.5 stars, but the half-star isn't allowed anymore. Mostly, it's that he's a jerk the whole issue, and I hate the pain-in-the-backside characters. He's his own Orko, for crying out loud. However, it's also the fact that to start his dimension-hopping, the first place he goes is the human (presumably 616) universe. Seen it, it was fun, but I don't really want to see it again. I'd rather see some solid animal-universe fun. I honestly haven't decided if I want to pick up the next issue.
