I think I get where they were trying to go with this, but that's just nonsense. You can't have someone be a verified genius, have them interact with deities and the supernatural, acknowledge them as such, then let then turn around and say "y'all don't exist". Having Batman say he doesn't worship anything is the only alternative that can make some sense, because if you meet and interact with deities, it seems that some writers fail to grasp that it's not a matter of belief anymore.
There isn't a question that Darkseid exists; he invaded Earth from another dimension. Trigon did too, and Batman was there for that as well. Wonder Woman, a daughter of Zeus, is on his team. So that line there makes me cringe because it makes Batman come off as dogmatic, edgy and stupid.
