So a while ago, some thing amazing happened. As I'm sure you can imagine, anime isn't really something that's very popular in Pakistan. Though to be fair the community is growing but it really isn't very organised. Just a few months the idea of an anime convention here was ludicrous (not the rapper). That is until "Dekho Japan". Translated to "See Japan", the two day convention would see a legion a fans descended upon the Pearl Continental hotel at Karachi.
I at the last minute decided to cosplay as the Doctor from Doctor Who, or at least my version of the doctor. I just wore all the things in my closet that I though were "Doctor-ish". Of course I was afraid that I would show up being the only cosplayer there but nonetheless I remained steadfast. Though I would have enjoyed all the weird stares I would have gotten had I been the only one, there were quit a few other cosplayer.
Me with Misa Amane from Death Note
I forced my non-otaku friends to come with me and though they were bored, I was having the time of my life. Finally after so long I could talk to other people about something I have loved ad adored for so long. I made new friends, I sung the Pokemon theme song and I photobombed a lot of people. Hell meeting one of the people there resulted In me getting my first job.
Dekho Japan has resulted in the community to unite and organise in whole new way (thank god for social media). It has proved all the naysayers wrong and indirectly resulted in the further organisation of new conventions, most notably the "Pakistan Comic Con" which is coming some time in 2014.
Dekho Japan has opened the flood gates for what I hope to be a change the in Pakistani pop culture and the popularity of interests such as comics, anime, manga, all that good nerdy stuff.
I just got the game on the pc, i was hoping to play it with the community, but i guess my level is so low, i cant find anyone to play with. So if you wanna play it with me, mp me your steam username, and ill send you an invite
I kind of felt the same way when I first read it, but I was young and stupid, I missed a lot of the themes and ideas. Reading it again being older and more mature, it blew my mind.
There's a great book called "Watchmen and Philosophy: A Rorschach Test", read it.
I like give Tony a brother, that could lead to some interesting stories, but i believe every heroes origin should be simple and easy to explain. This just muddies the water and makes everything convoluted
