Whilst I do not mean it sincerely, I believe a good case could be made for the Jackal being in the top five. He put Spidey through as much misery as Marvel put Spider-Man fans through in the mid to late 90's, that is a bit of a feat. Whilst he was being partially manipulated by Osbourn, he still had his own special way off pissing Pete off what with Pete not knowing if he was a clone or not. That was originally Jackals idea and, thought it may have gone on longer, and twisted and turned more, and have been helped along by others, than any of us, characters or readers, wanted/needed it's still a rather nefarious scheme. He also created Kaine and, I am not ashamed to admit this, I love him: From veiny and spiky to bearded and rain mac'd, even to Scarlet and, err, in Huston. Jackal surely gets some kudos for that, right?

I find myself agreeing with Osborn being Pete's biggest nemesis and Ock being Spideys. I mostly feel that in a Spidey and Goblin match, Spidey has the advantage, but in Pete and Norman Pete is definitely the underdog. To me, Ock somehow feels more physically menacing, more so when he develops a 'personal forcefield', and seriously has some diabolical schemes to him, what with being Master Planner and Ends of the Earth right now. Heck, even close to dying the guy is giving not just Spidey but the whole world a serious beatdown, it's just a shame he didn't get married to/stayed married to (I forget which) May, then he could have challenged Norman on the Pete front too. Finally, without Ock, there would have been no Luke 'Calamari' Carlyle, who is definitely on of my favourite exceptionally minor Spidey villains. All of this is not bad for a guy who's, at least, ten times simpler than the bright spark (he he) electrician who decided to fix power-lines during a thunderstorm.

Still, I'd plump for Shocker. He was my favourite as 6 year old and, believe me, that guy had some pretty good ideas.

Has already be said but for the Marvel cosmic characters I would suggest Annihilation, Annihilation Conquest, War of Kings, Realm of Kings and The Thanos Imperative and all the related tie-in comics. Be weary however, this is a lot of comics. That'd cover nearly all the Guardians of the Galaxy run that started in 2008, containing the always badass Peter Quill and Rocket Racoon, as well as Drax, Groot and a smidgen of Adam Warlock and Thanos, as well as issues covering The Silver Surfer and a fair bit of Nova. For a sizeable chunk of Thanos and Adam Warlock go with the whole Infinity Sagas including Thanos Quest, The Infinity Gauntlet, The Infinity War, The Infinity Crusade, The Infinity Abyss and The End. You shouldn't have any difficulty following along as the characters' history doesn't seem all that relevant, however, there are many other superb story-arcs with those guys but these suggestions are a good place to start.

For the DC stuff however, I can offer no advice, sorry.

I enjoy Spidey as an Avenger dues to his respect of Cap and Stark and his enjoyment of working with them and others on the team. His wisecracking is always my favourite in any team situation to so I enjoy that too, but it all loses some of it magic when it happens consistently so I prefer it if he was a reserve Avenger. For example, they way The Avengers feature in Ends of the Earth is good. I like Spidey and Fantastic Four team-ups as his relationship with them all is very familial and that's nice to see. However, I much prefer Spidey on his lonesome, I think his nature, powers and attitude work better like that, thought the occasional team-up is welcome. I always enjoy a good Spidey/Daredevil adventure.

In all honestly, on looks alone, I actually prefer Lee/Bana Hulk. I like his colour and how he doesn't look 'buff' per say, compared to the others, he just looks bigger, if you see what I mean. The quality of the CGI is irrelevant because it was pretty good for it's time. I think the Whedon/Ruffalo Hulk was excellent, retaining Ruffalo's features and the ape/animalistic stances and movement were really enjoyable. It would appear Ruffalo is pretty good at motion-capture, I would certainly enjoying watching more of it. I don't really care for the Leterrier/Norton Hulk, it was exceptionally ugly and overly muscled, though the car gloves were cool.

When I read stuff about it online, before the film was released, I usually find that people were miffed about Norton not being in The Avengers. When it was announced way back when that it was gonna be Ruffalo instead I was pleased. I can't stand Norton, his Banner was whiney and annoying, and Ruffalo has an excellent knack for quiet and withheld, but affable, secondary-but-significant-role characters and thought that, applied to Banner, he could do an excellent job. And, quite frankly, he really did.
