why do batman comics (or does DC do it in general) bold random words?

the exclamation points I understand, it adds excitement, style. But the bolded words make no sense. "thanks for the food Alfred. It tasted good"

i made that quote up but that's basically what they do. wtf?

@fallschirmjager: you might be right I watched it when I was pretty young but def don't care for these new movies which seem to be targeted to a younger audience (understandably)

@pyrogram: It's more often than not used in an idiomatic sense.

Felt a little more mature, a little less teeny love story where the good little boy gets the girl of his dreams and they live happily ever after. ok yeah, that happened in the originals too but it was a little less embarrassing to watch.

@pikachumonster: I'm pretty sure. I generalized it quite a bit, but that's basically it.

I read once (haven't slept in a long time and read it awhile ago - could be off) that swear words originated from the poor's vocabularies. since they were uneducated, the rich and affluent would look down on the unique vocabulary that the uneducated and poor used. This became known as the language of the poor.
