Comic Book Question of the Week RESULTS: Who's Your Favorite X-Men Character?

There's about a gazillion characters that have been X-Men over the years (that's a rough estimate), and the Comic Vine crowd has declared one as its favorite. Is it obviously Wolverine or did another character grab the victory?

Back in 1963, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby introduced the world to the X-Men. The original roster was led by Professor X and consisted of just 5 characters: Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Beast, and Angel. Decades later and the team has expanded a great deal and undergone some drastic changes. Dozens upon dozens of writers and artists have left their mark on the franchise and it's currently in a completely different state than when it began, too. The team has included a wide array of characters, but we wanted to know which mutant the Comic Vine community likes the most. We gave you quite a few options (plus the choice of "other" -- you can never please everyone) and one character blasted apart the competition. That man, ladies and gentlemen, is Scott Summers aka Cyclops.

Basically how the poll went, too.
Basically how the poll went, too.

Okay, really can't say we saw that one coming. Truth be told, we expected Wolverine's sheer popularity to give him the edge, but it looks like the tactician knocked him out of the way with an optic blast or two. Scott may have felt a little like a boyscout at first, but the guy has a brilliant mind when it comes to tactics and has always been completely about protecting his people. He's recently made some big decisions that were pretty polarizing to fans, but the fact remains he was able to make a call when it come to incredibly difficult scenarios. Whether or not you stood by his side is a whole different story. Plus, his ability to demolish anything in his path with optic blasts is pretty cool, right?

"What am I doing? Isn't it obvious? Beating you and Logan in the CV poll! Mwhahaha!"

Here's the complete poll results. Quite a turnout this week... over 500 votes!

Viner Post of the Week for Cyclops is by zoomHYPERIONzoom

"'Cyclops was right.'

Scott is the voice of reason amongst a sea of melodramatic, emotionally driven characters. Wolverine is cool but, contrary to his power set, not the sharpest tool in the shed. Intelligence trumps all in my book and many would choose Beast for that reason but Henry is often too soft for my taste, who too often appeals to emotion rather than reason.

Cyclops satisfies my affinity for rational, righteous characters with enough power to make people pay attention.

Cyclops is a superb tactician both on the world scale and in hand to hand combat. Able to go to to toe with the best there is at what he does even without using his optic blasts.

...And optic blasts are awesome."

Viner Post of the Week for Nightcrawler is by micahparadise

"I'm actually surprise Cyclops is in top running in this vote! :) Although i think the recently writing of him since the utopia storylines and now as a mutant terrorist has made him a rather great character. BUT enough about my thoughts, here is my vote:

NIGHTCRAWLER!!!

The most original, fun loving, and likeable character on the Xmen. He's like the heart of the team"

No Caption Provided

Good news for the Cyclops fans out there. A series centered around Summers is being released in May and it's by Greg Rucka and Russell Dauterman. Did the classic X-Man earn your vote or did your love go elsewhere? No matter whom you voted for, go ahead and share your favorite picture of the character below!

Aside from the whole pro/anti Cyclops debate the X-men have a lot of my favourite characters. Kitty Pryde, Emma Frost, Wolverine, Professor Xavier and even newer characters such as X-23 are great.

Still don't like Storm though. Ever since I was a kid I disliked her because her powers are basically magic. I mean, how does an x-gene control the weather? Not a lot of scientific basis for a lot of the powers but that one takes the cake. I dislike her personality for the same reason Nightcrawler grates on me also.

But I digress. X-men have been one of my favourite titles since forever.

I'm happy Cyclops won.

In the battle between @wolverine08's ego and @god_spawn's, I'd settle for the latter.

Predictable. Not many lesser men can handle my ego.

I don't know what I'm more surprised by: that it was Cyclops, or that it wasn't Wolverine.

Didn't vote in this, but I would've voted for Cyclops, so I'm glad to see he won. Not gonna lie though, I really wish the upcoming Cyclops comic was about old Cyclops instead of young Cyclops. I know technically they're still the same person, but I much rather read about the Cyclops that has been through shit. Whatever though.

Wow the hypocritical, anarchical, henious excuse for a 'superhero' and fallen angel that is Cyclops gets the vote on here? Really? That's made me lose a bit of faith in the Vine for picking one of the worst comic book characters as "the voice of right and reason." Did anyone actually read AvX? Or see what Marvel have made Cyclops into? Where even top ranking Marvel editors actively said Cyclops was in the wrong during AvX? And yet people still think he's a messiah of mutant kind? What idiotic decision making that has appalling reason and fallacious logic behind it. I could go on and on about how wrong Cyclops was but people have already done that so there's no need. Cyclops was WRONG when you actually look at what he did.

You know some of us voted him for what he was before...don't generalize, man.

And Cyke may not be at his best now but a favorite is a favorite, I still love him for the character he was back in New and Astonishing X-men.

That doesn't mean much, intention and final product can differ. Marvel didn't manage to show that Cyclops was wrong clearly, so people sided with him and the fact that he was right (even by coincidence) about the phoenix, only made him look better. Plus no one takes AvX seriously because it is an abomination.

I'm one of them. Cyclops was my favorite and he is still may favorite. Despite the fact that writers screw him over and over but he still survives , that's not an easy thing.

Marvel screwed X-men since House of M , after the M-day Marvel only cared Avengers. There were made so many damages to X-men like Schism and AvX is the last chain of this abomination.

Speaking of Wolverine, there was a time he was one of my favorite but he is not anymore. Actually one of my least favorite because over using him just ruined his charecter. Maybe it's movies fault , it tamed his image and Every X movie made for him and DOFP will be not exception. Marvel used him everywhere and made him more Avenger then X-men. And every new idea make for him just made him more hypocrite and less interesting. I couldn't belive when they made him profesor Wolverine , it's just a dumb idea. And when he betrayed X-men in AvX that was enough for me. After that Marvel not stop ruining him. That horrible Age of Ultron killed Wolverine. He lost all his charm for many comic book reader.

I really expected Wolverine to take the majority of the votes but the votes were pretty even between characters. Nightcrawler got a 12% Wow!

Now if we could only get a good Cyclops story...please deliver mr.Rucka!

What about that limited series by Brian K. Vaugh ICONS Cyclops!?? Wasn't that series pretty good if not great!!?

Cyclops deserves this. He is a tactical genius and undisputed field leader of the Xmen.

He has been the personification of Xavior dreams. He has taken that dream and recrafted it through personal experiences and desire. Still, he has came through on top.

This about sums it up. Cyclops IS Xavier's dream made into flesh. He is the X-Men.

Xavier's dream is for his protege to get possessed by the Dark Phoenix and be controlled to kill him and then his dream made into flesh would get wrongfully blamed by the whole world for the murder, become a fugitive, and then be hunted by SHIELD using their own anti-mutant government-sanctioned giant robots?

@ssejllenrad: thats just a small chapter to a very established character. I'm not claiming Cyclops is perfect, even Xavior himself has had his dark days but when you look at Cyclops on a whole, he has at many times defined the dream that the Xmen have aspired to.

Meeeeeh... You view it that way. I got no problem with it. But I want my Cykes to be not the boring boy scout and I want him with balls and taking no sh*t from the Avengers or Wolverine and leading the mutant race like Xavier or Mags never did... Now that is Cyclops!

I think Cyclops won the poll because he really is the heart of the X-Men. He's an underdog - not the smartest, strongest, coolest, funniest, etc. He's represents every average guy who rises to the occasion through sheer guts and determination. He may make questionable decisions, but I think he's got loads of charisma and a core goodness that's really inspiring. I view him as the male equivalent to Kitty Pryde, who everyone (including me) loves!

Wolverine is an incredible, iconic character and he definitely deserves all the love he gets, but to me, he just isn't all that relatable. He's the ultimate badass, not the everyman like Cyclops or Kitty Pryde.

Speaking of Kitty Pryde, I was surprised to see her rank so low in this list! I thought she'd at least get the top 5, if not number 1! Overall, I was disheartened to see so little love for the X-Women! I think the writers need to really do a better service to the X-Women. I know there's an all female issue of X-Men out at the moment, but from what I've heard it's not very good! I think that Marvel needs to put their top writers to work in order to really make the most of the female characters!

I especially want this for Storm. I think that we'd all like for Storm to be our favorite character, but the truth of the matter is that even with her interesting past, she's never really had much of a personality. What an incredible waste of a character that could potentially be as badass as Wonder Woman or Barbara Gordon!
