    Free of all of this

To be honest this is the first issue of Vampirella that I have ever read, and I read it in part because of its somewhat free nature as it was released as part of of an attempt by the publisher to get people interested in the series after the release of the first trade paper back.  Although different in tone and in context from the DC title which I sometimes read (I, Vampire) it is still inherently based around the supernatural in general and vampires in specific so it starts off not being my favourite genre.  This issue however does serve as a decent introduction to the character, even if it is after a full story arc of the series.  The atmosphere here is pretty dark, which could be expected as most of it occurs at night, but it is also dark in a different sense.  It is of course interesting to see Vampirella hunting the other creatures, but I felt here that the characters themselves shined through quite capably.  As for a free issue I think this one is a good choice, and I may find myself reading the other occasional issue of this series.
