Terrifics Vol 1 Review
Synopsis:
This is a new series spinning out of Dark Nights Metal. The team consists of Mr. Terrific, Plastic Man, Metamorpho and Phantom Girl. This is NOT the Phantom Girl of the Legion of Super Heroes fame.
The Story:
Brought together by fate, these 4 heroes are bound to each other by a visit to the Dark Multiverse. This series feels like a direct attempt by DC at creating their own version of the Fantastic Four. That's not necessarily a bad thing as this is a fun, lighthearted team book which is a breath of fresh air in today's comic book world of constant doom & gloom. That's not to say it isn't without some good character development as each character deals with their own personal issues which haunt them to their very cores. This book is a good start for this series and the individual personalities of each character make it a fun read. Obviously the title makes Mr. Terrific the de facto team leader but his interactions with Plastic Man are a lot of fun. Plastic Man and Metamorpho also have an interesting relationship with Metamorpho's harder than nails demeanor and Plastic Man's antics.
Overall:
This is worth picking up if you're a fan of these characters. Lemire has definitely done his homework on these characters as we see several faces from their pasts and how it has influenced the characters they've become. Phantom Girl is a brand new character here but he does a very good job of giving her a unique origin and some nice backstory in only 6 issues. I'm also eager to see where this series goes with the constant tease of Tom Strong throughout.
