razzatazz's The 'Nam #24 - Beginning of the End review

    Significance

This issue provides a fictionalized account of the famous Eddie Adams execution picture from Saigon.  This also coincides with the Tet Offensive, the crucial point in the war where the Vietcong traded material losses for propaganda gains.  The impression of the soldiers is the same as ever, they are not as much concerned with the bigger events of the war, rather they are interested only in doing the job that has been given to them and staying alive.  The impression of this issue is that the writer (whose experience provided the stories for most of the series) was not actually here for this event but rather was writing for one of the first times in the series based a little more on conjecture.  This does lose a little bit of the gritty realism to do with the story, but it is made up for with historical significance.
