    Last Stand Part 2

I didn't pick up the current volume of Supergirl until issue #35 when Sterling Gates took over the book.  I was not blown away with the first issue of Gates' run.  Then we were plunged into the year of New Krypton.  Gates has improved with every issue and at times this was the book to go to in the Superman Family if you wanted a stand alone issue.  My only complaint is with Jamal Igles' art.  I'm not a fan of his faces or feet.  The eyes have been, to me cross eyed or too close together.  There has been little differentiation between Kara and her mother.  I looked forward to the fill in's and kept reading the good stories that Gates was putting together.  The final build up to #50 saw one of those times that Igle was off the book for a couple of issue and Matt Camp did a great job and had me begging the gods that he'd stay as the artist.  Now don't stop reading yet this is not a "bash Jamal Igle review".  Getting to the point is with the art in #50 Igle has me as a fan.  Still not perfect but definitely solid.

With this issue I feel that the art is a strong point and that it finally enhance Gates' story.  Being part 2 of the Last Stand the story picks up the thread of the Legion being held by Zod and Supergirl's struggle against the enhanced Brainac death droids.  The Legion and Connor escape but while escaping Alura attacks Connor.  She saw his human DNA coupled with the house of El's symbol on his chest and feared that he was another Earth spy/sleeper agent coming to attack New Krypton.  As the cover shows, well not quite, Kara attacks Connor.  This is cleared up quickly and the story moved forward.  Brainiac's droids attack we get to see a demonstration of tactile telekinesis' affect on the droids.  Much to Zod's chagrin Alura pardon's Connor and the Legion and Zod is once again at odds with the Council, just like the last time Brainiac attacked Kandor.  One odd moment in this issue was when Kara gave Mon-El a good luck kiss before he left to help Superman.  It came out of nowhere and just didn't feel right to me.  We end with the Kara, Connor, and the Legion all going out to save Superman from Brainiac.  In the words of Starman " up, up, and AWAAAY
