Help Me Cut Down My Pull List!

Right, so currently, I'm spending more money on single issues per month than I would like (spending an average of about $45/week) and it's not leaving me any money for trades that I'm collecting or y'know...any other extraneous things that I want. So I'm coming to you guys (a lot of whom know my taste well) to help me cut out what I don't need or just am not enjoying because I'm incredibly indecisive.

This is my full list at the moment of not only books that I'm regularly pulling, but books that I had previously decided that I was reading the first arc of and they're organized by category, because I'm awesome.

Books I Won't Drop

  • Uncanny X-Men
  • X-Factor
  • X-Men: Legacy
  • Generation Hope
  • Batgirl
  • Nightwing
  • Blackhawks
  • Aquaman
  • Batman
  • Red Hood and the Outlaws
  • Supergirl
  • Wonder Woman
  • Birds of Prey

Books I'd Prefer to Keep Reading/Would be Okay With Trade-Waiting

  • Generation Hope
  • Justice League (I love you FTBB, don't kill me - it's pretty Jim Lee art!)
  • Fantastic Four
  • Future Foundation
  • Justice League Dark
  • Batwing
  • Secret Avengers
  • Wolverine and the X-Men

Books I'm on the Fence About/Deciding if I Should Trade-Wait

  • Deathstroke
  • Action Comics
  • Legion Lost
  • Stormwatch
  • Superboy
  • Batwoman
  • Batman and Robin
  • Green Lantern
  • New Guardians
  • Catwoman
  • Green Lantern Corps
  • Legion of Super-Heroes

Books I'm Close to Dropping

  • Superman
  • Voodoo
  • Suicide Squad
  • Detective Comics
  • I, Vampire
  • Teen Titans

@Caligula: That's one that I'm considering trade-waiting instead. For some reason, it's not grabbing my interest like I'd hoped it would, it may be the art, I'm just not sure.

@Caligula: What about it appeals to you?

And I got the first issue of it (which I loved, actually) and forgot to get the second. So I'm trade-waiting it at this point.

I love the depiction of Catwoman as confident and cocky, I love her being one step ahead. So much so I see her in her current depiction as an equal to Bruce in cunning and intelligence, i love the tone of her relationship with Bruce as well, the mind control she has over him. As in letting him think she needs his help when in fact it often the other way around. I also love her new nemesis in the character Bone, he seems to be a promising new rogue in the Gotham gallery. it's well written, the art is somewhat bland but I think the writing is the best it's been for her character since Heart of Hush.

But I haven't read Superboy's current stuff so I can't speak to that.

@The Dark Huntress: You can just start off with the first volume of The Authority and go on from there. To get familiar with the characters there's a 5-part mini called Jenny Sparks: The Secret History of the Authority.

@CitizenBane: You are perfection. Thank you!

@Carolina574: Why not?

@Gambit1024: I was really hoping they'd use this opportunity to clear out the LoSH continuity, which is easily the most convoluted continuity in comics. I'm disappointed that they didn't and pretty confused, considering that I didn't read the last volume.

Plus, am I the only one who thinks that this arc feels slightly reminiscent of the Lightning Saga?

@The Dark Huntress: Exactly why I dropped it. Normally I tend to give the series a chance if their first issues are bad, but I just couldn't take this one. If the first issue didn't clear up what was confusing before, there's no point in reading what's next.

And I noticed Generation Hope on your list too. Is there even anything going on in that?

well i'm glad I did. it's always good to have more supporters for an amazing female character's series when so so many of the female characters these days seem to get lackluster treatment in the writing department.

@jloneblackheart: Yeah...that's super-likely <__<

@Illuminatus: I'm contemplating trade-waiting it, but I can't not read something done by Jim Lee.

@Gambit1024: I keep waiting for Gen. Hope to get better. I'm not overly fond of the way she's been written there, it doesn't do the character justice. But James Asmus is taking up the book and he wrote the most likable issue of her in Uncanny since Second Coming. That's my book that I just hopes gets better.

@Caligula: Couldn't agree more.

I just couldn't get into it at all....I didn't know any of the characters before the relaunch and just didn't really care for any of them so it got dropped on issue 3

Superman might get dropped if Paul Jenkins doesn't do a better job than George Perez

I dropped Deathstroke after issue #2, just too one dimensional for me. I would say keep Wolverine and the X-Men, I love the tone it has set so far and the art has started to grow on me as well.

And Fantastic Four/Future Foundation looks like it'll def be worth staying with for the rest of this arc at least.

If i were you i'd drop Teen Titans since, if your not enjoying this book at the moment, their's really no point in continuing to buy it. The tone and writing, isn't going to change anytime soon, so you might as well save your money, rather than waiting for a book to change that won't.

Detective Comics - This book doesn't really offer anything that you can't find somewhere else. Snyder's Batman is a better detective/mystery book with a higher quality of art, while Batman and Robin gives you that team dynamic and a more action packed story. It's a perfectly average book imo might as well let it go.

I'd also drop Superman, since its just an all round bad book so far. It might get better with the creative team change, but i doubt it's going to reach anywhere near the standards set by Action Comics.

I adore Higgins' Nightwing, so I'm holding on to this for one more issue. If I don't see good character development, it's getting dropped.

Agreed with WaTXM, it feels reminiscent of Carey's writing on Vol. 3 of X-Men, which was a personal favorite of mine. I like Bachalo as well, it's just the flat coloring that's irritating me a bit.

I may switch those to a trade wait, not entirely sure, but they're at the bottom of my list of interest at the moment (sorry, jlone!). I'm just not caught up enough with events to fully contemplate what's going on in them.

  • Catwoman
  • Green Lantern Corps
  • Legion of Super-Heroes

Books I'm Close to Dropping

  • Superman
  • Voodoo
  • Suicide Squad
  • Detective Comics
  • I, Vampire
  • Teen Titans

Drop these;

  • Green Lantern Corps (No Kyle, no reason to read)
  • Voodoo (It's Purps the comic, just talk to Purps)
  • Suicide Squad (HARLEY HAS BEEN RUINED)
  • Catwoman (Judd Winick + Pointless over-sexualisation of its heroine.)
  • Wolverine and the X-Men (because it's Wolverine and the X-Men, you hate Kid Omega, and it's written by Jason Aaron)
  • One of the Legion comics. (You don't need two Legion books, especially since they hit their Apex with Waid's work.)
  • Secret Avengers (Pointless comic is pointless. Just wait for Remender to take over, then pick it up again)
  • Justice League (just read Hush again)

Keep New Guardians, because it's the only title from the mainstream (non-Vertigo inspired) DCU worth reading. Other than Action Comics, of course.

I was going to and wanted to throw in, but as I realized our initial lists differ to much for my opinion to count here. Likewise I already dropped some of those as issue 3, and have other titles not there on mine that take precedence, especially from publishers other than the big two (I think those actually may collectively outnumber the Marvel and Dc ones for me now?). Also there's certain books I keep for love of characters that I know don't appeal to everyone, like Suicide Squad for Harley Quinn for example, thus demoting my opinion of my opinion further. Personally though, and I see this a bit for everyone on Vine, the number best mentality I found that increased my reading experience was to form the habit of not following family books or events, ect. completely and only stick to the exact titles you specially really deeply enjoy. Take that word for word. At best I've personally found that I don't need other related books to know whats going on, and can't understand why others do, as well the books themselves tend to summarize it and we do have the internet for filling in the blanks. A lot of what you have listed went this way for me. I'm pretty into things like Bat family, GL, and X-Men. But I taught myself not to buy and read books just because they were in those families and my enjoyment of comics has increased x5.

Everything in your "Close to drop" list but Teen Titans, I feel it's just picking up.

Most of Green Lantern stuff, outside the Hal Jordan one, New Guardians is a bit of a let down.

Future Foundation and Generation Hope are sorta fizzy in my opinion.

Personally I've dropped Supergirl, the last issue was such a bore.

Superman for sure. At least until the book gets a decent creative team. And I myself decided to drop Justice League. The art is alright, but I don't like Johns' writing on this. Aquaman is good, but Justice League.. eh. If you really must drop titles, cut Deathstroke too. It's a decent book, but the majority of it seems to be focused on violence and bloodshed(not that I mind, but there should be more to his character).

He wrote Schism. Since then, my respect for him went from quite high, to Fraction-levels.

  • Fantastic Four keep
  • Future Foundation keep/trade= leaning towards trade
  • Justice League Dark keep
  • Batwing I feel like this is better in trade
  • Secret Avengers Keep
  • Wolverine and the X-Men(Keep)

  • Legion Lost (Drop)
  • Stormwatch (drop/trade)

  • Wolverine and the X-Men (because it's Wolverine and the X-Men, you hate Kid Omega, and it's written by Jason Aaron)

Hold the phone here. How is Aaron's writing it a bad thing? Not that I disagree with dropping the book, but still.

He wrote Schism. Since then, my respect for him went from quite high, to Fraction-levels.

True, but I'm willing to forgive him for it if he pulls off the end of Punisher MAX right. Plus, his Incredible Hulk run is good so far.

Eh. I like him, but I've always liked Hulk more. Still, if he f**ks up with Punisher MAX and writes a lame ending, I'm going to burn down his house.
