Characteristics

Appearance: Panelarary is a bulky quadrupedal reptilian Pokémon with thick silver plated skin. This Pokémon has a usually vacant look on its narrow face. Said face has a robust beak on the end that is used for cropping spikey vegetation. In addition to this feeding apparatus Panelaray has reinforced scales on the base of its neck to avoid cutting itself open when on the thorns of the plants it feeds on.

The most impressive feature of this Pokémon are the black pentagonal plates running in a single row along Panelaray’s back. These plates are used to absorb energy from sunlight, and in particularly warm weather the circuitry like veins inside these structures to glow orange. These plates run from the shoulder area down to the base of the spine and towards a pair of spikes on the tip of the tail which appear to be made of the same material as this Pokémon’s back ornamentation.

Ecology: Panelaray are often found on a few hills in southern Invictia, usually those surrounded by dense scrub and with exposed southern facing banks. During the morning this Pokémon often takes to the summit of said hills and orientates its flanks eastwards to absorb the heat and energy of the morning sun, eventually rotating to face southwards as the sun traverses across the sky. On particularly cold days Panelaray may remain on the crest of the hill for the entire day, only descending as night falls to seek shelter in the dense thorns and bushes of its home.

Primarily herbivorous, Panelaray often descends from hills just after midday to feed on brambles and briars which are its preferred food. To prevent itself from ripping its throat open while feeding this Pokémon has reinforced scales under its neck. While no Pokémon actively targets Panelaray for food, many mischievous or cruel Pokémon such as Scrafty and Mimikyu enjoy pulling pranks on their larger neighbour by pulling its tail or punching it in the flank. That said these pranksters have to be careful, should Panelaray be charged pull of solar energy it reacts faster than almost another Pokémon, and despite looking fragile, the spikes on its tail are tough enough to slice open plate steel.

Humans often state that Panelaray is slow both in body and mind, and it’s true that this Pokémon is slow moving and not the greatest of thinkers. That said Panelaray isn’t stupid, every night when it goes to sleep this Pokémon plans its entire day, taking into account various weather formations and their effects on its environment. There was even a theory that Panelaray’s shuddering in its sleep can be used to predict how it will act, although this was disproved by scientists quite quickly when it was discovered that the test Pokémon were being kept in conditions too cold for the amount of daily solar energy they had absorbed.

Trivia

Origin: Panelaray is based quite strongly on dinosaurs from the Stegosauridae Family particularly the genus Hesprosaurus. The plates themselves seems to have some similarity in regards to photo-voltaic panels in regards to their colouration and the circuitry like blood vessels inside them.

Name Origin: Panelaray’s name comes from a combination of panel, array and ray.

I would think the name might also be based off ray? Like ray of sunlight? Maybe overthinking that. Interesting that these "dinosaur" Pokemon are active in the wild rather then being cloned from fossils.

@wildvine: No you're right, ray is part of it too. As for dinosaur Pokemon, don't think too much on it, some are extant like Grovyle, Tyranitar and Marrowak and others are extinct.

@impurestcheese: That's fair. I don't agree one everyone that is called a "dinosaur" by some fans but I did forget the Aron line. Hard to argue him. Fair point.

@wildvine: Fair enough. Grovyle has a lot of raptorial features, and Tyranitar while Kaiju based has some saurian aspects too.

I can kind of see Marrowak but it gets harder when it tries to light itself on fire.
