How About Vertigo Animated Movies?

Looking at that fact that the DC Animated movies seem to be good judging on what they do, how about they make some for the Vertigo comics? Like I think today it's clear we can have R rated cartoons based on Vertigo's comics. I mean it's taking forever to see movie like Fables and Sandman come out. So how would other feel if they made them as DVD cartoons instead?

I don't have HBO or Showtime :( I rather have actor shows myself. But have a feeling non-comic book readers might not get/like some of the Vertigo stuff. So maybe these cartoon would be better. Stuff like Sandman I just can see in live-action sometimes and same with Fables. Plus Once Upon A Time kind of took that away from Fables and the Martix kind of took that away from Invisibles and Warm Bodies is kind of the same idea as iZombie. We'll see. Non-comic book readers need to see stuff other then Superman and Batman stuff.

No budget for it. HBO would literally have to shut down nearly all of their current shows just to support one comic based TV show, and do it right. The idea is really cool, though; but it is far from practical.

@nerdork: Given that the pilot episode of Games of Throne costed over $20 million and every episode after that was roughly $6 million, and that was for the first season alone. I don't see how a comic book based tv show is impractical.

Do you also see them cancelling a show like Game of Thrones, to incorporate a rather unpopular (via mass audiences) comic based TV show? No, its impractical. The only channel that would even try is AMC, but they would probably stick with IMAGE based stories anyway.

@nerdork: Why would they need to cancel Games of Thrones to supplement a new television series? The fact they were able to turn a fantasy novel, of all things, into a television show proves that it is a possibility, and that there is an audience for it. HBO is already in the process of trying to convert Neil Gaiman's 'American Gods' novel and 'Sandman' graphic novel series into a storyboard to pitch. HBO has over 10 original programs that are currently running. Their budget is humongous. Also I can think of two of those series which are nearing it's end. So it's not outside the realm of possibility.

@omgomgwtfwtf: Okay, if we are going to play the, "inside the realm of possiblity" game, I think I'll just side step out of this ambiguous conversation.

Sandman and Fables I think would be better as cartoons at this point if you want people to take the idea seriously. Sandman requires a lot of white makeup on the Endless and Fables has a ton of talking animals. Other Vertigo work isn't that well known either and not that popular even among comic book readers. It's so hard to find a Fables fan and Sandman fan I'm finding. Like I said rather see actor shows or movies, but for people to take it seriously might be an issue.

Would love to see Hellblazer and Sandman. ^__^

No, not a superhero show; a Vertigo show. Sandman is not a superhero story, and it wouldn't be too expensive. Same for Fables, Y the Last Man, etc.

Y, though, could be done by AMC.

@jedixman: Neil Gaiman's Sandman has already been pitched to HBO.

Excellent. And I hear that American Gods will also become a HBO show.

I am quite happy to see Neil Gaiman stories become TV shows.

I would love to see any title from Vertigo make the jump to animation -- even better, a television series.

Fables would be an amazing animated show.

100 Bullets would work well as either animated or HBO. Or HBO animated, like that Spawn show.

I prefer there to be Vertigo tv shows rather then movies.

And the Vertigo series I want to be a tv show the most would be Preacher.
