Because of the way super hero films are handled - how many times do we need Batman's origins or Spidey's, I never worry too much about cannon when it comes to these things.

I last was into comics in 1997.  I was really into Marvel - had the first four collectible card series and I was an avid collector of Spider-Man and Fantastic Four (with a little bit of X-Men thrown in).  So when I left off, it was in the middle of the Onslaught saga.  As I went through my comics to inventory them recently, I saw lots of ads for the Heroes Reborn series.  And when I went into the comic shop recently I saw all these "Civil War" trade paperbacks.  My question is - if I want to get back into things, which trade paperbacks should I read so that I'm not completely lost with what's going on now?

Thanks,
