Is College a Scam?

How much money will you actually make compare to someone with just a high school education?
Are job opportunities better for someone with college diploma than it is for someone with a high school diploma on average?

It seems the reality is that college education is nice but it is not necessary for actually making more money than the average person.
Is making 10% more than someone else worth spending 4 years in college and risk putting yourself in debt with having to repay student loans?

Is hands on experience not better than text book knowledge and a Diploma?

A good suit and and good attitude can get you just as close to a job as can a college diploma so long as you are willing to learn and know what it is you need to do.

I know mathematicians who are  physicist who make about 20-25k a year some how that doesnt seem fair or right nor worth doing when a labor job can get you the same if not more.
Same for Lab Techs people who get college diplomas only to work alongside people who never went to college straight from high school or starting at a low position and moving on.

If you are gonna go to College or planning to attend a University you might wanna watch the Video above.

This is my 1st blog in a week.

the thing is that the college propaganda skews the kids world view with promises of high paying jobs with the truth being far from it. if a 100 thousand kids graduate each year how many jobs are they all goin to have and how much are they goin to be paid?  A diploma isnt even a requirement were many will end up like store manager, car salesmen, office clerk... if they had focus on a particular job many could make more money then they could with a general college education.  i am a firm believer on union apprentice programs, trade schools, hands on training education..  I myself took a couple of college courses to get my certifications and i only went for like two months 2 to 3 days out of the week while working and being paid.

I don't know what school PROMISES high paying jobs but the idea is supposed to be that they will give you the skills to get the job the rest is up to you.

I meant tech schools where ur required to cram loads of information in half the time as traditional universities or colleges. Or places that only care about the $ not its students. Places like Everest, Fullsail, Phoenix University, Galen etc etc.More times than not u won't even work towards an actual degree. (Certificates/diplomas instead) Not sayin all tech schools are bad since joining up pretty much indicates you know what you want to do with ur life and can do without all the extra courses. But these schools are usually regionally accredited and most schools won't accept their credits if transferring. Thats what I meant by for profit. I'm starting college after the summer so any pointers/constructive criticism would be appreciated as well :)

To my surprise, there are a few retail jobs that require Bachelor's degrees.  That doesn't always make sense to me.

We look down on electricians, plumbers, and mechanics because careers like those don't require a degree.
Well, these fields do require Associate's degrees, right?

No you don't need a degree for those professions, you do how ever either need a license, which most colleges offer now. Or you can apprentice and I know people who have taken over five years of apprenticeship before becoming a journeyman, but those are usually people that work in a trade union or guild.

I'm in the UK but its more or less the same situation.
I need the experence and the access to equipment. Worth the money? yes, worth the amount of money they charge? Hell no. The sad fact is that without this it would be very hard to achive what I would like to with the money I would earn doing some tedious job long hours.

Here is the reality of the situation. If you and me are trying to get the same job and I have a degree and you don't 9 times out of 10 I'm getting that job.

Not everyone goes to college to get a 50K a month job, the salary isn't the only factor is deciding jobs.

Yes. A very big scam. Thousands of dollars (for most people, it's not even their money, it's the U.S. Government's money) spent to go to a four year institution just so you can walk with a cap, gown, and a piece of decorated paper.

Yet, jobs and/or salaries aren't guaranteed for most majors. I'm in college, I'll admit. ut, I'm only doing it because I feel like I don't have choice.

Agreed.

They have computer animation majors at art schools (which top out at $30,000/year, depending on the school). Yet, Monty Oum (the guy that made Dead Fantasy and Haloid videos) has a job in that field, and he dropped out of high school. Many people don't get that lucky.

Not having my degree finished is hurting me for promotion purposes now, so I am taking college courses now to help me get that edge.  I still say experience is more important, and in the IT world certifications are way more important than college degrees, but degrees look good during interviews for higher positions....
