The Murata Katana (村田刀, Murata-tou) is a sword from the manga/anime series Highschool of the Dead that was written by Daisuke Sato and illustrated by Shouji Sato. The series first began serialization in Fujimi Shobo's Monthly Dragon Age magazine in July 2006. It first appeared in Highschool of the Dead Volume 3 CH. 12 "The Sum of All Deads".
The blade of the Murata Katana is a double-edged Kissaki-Moroha only slightly curved. During the Meiji Era, it was created for Major General Murata, who was also known for the Murata Rifle. It was forged at the Tokyo Artillery Factory. As legend has it, how could cut the skull of a pig in half and not damage the blade.

Anime
The Highschool of the Dead manga was later adapted into an anime series that began airing in July 5, 2010. The Murata Katana first appeared in Highschool of the Dead - Episode 11 "Dead Storm Rising". The continuity of it's use was slightly changed.
