Which franchise would do better than the other, if both have to use completely original stories based on their universe, with completely original characters to create a movie trilogy. In this scenario, the characters has no connection to the known, established characters. Which franchise's story would you support (if you have to choose one?)

Which franchise has better potential?

Star Wars by default, I've never seen anything DBZ related.

Definitely Star Wars. The Star Wars franchise has already proven that it can survive without any ties to the original trilogy or prequel trilogy movies. It has had extremely successful novels, video game series, comics and more that have nothing to do with any of the movies other than they exist in the same universe. DBZ however, has not proven this at all, to my knowledge. All in all, I don't see DBZ surviving simply because the universe isn't built up to the same level as Star Wars. All DBZ universe characters have the same motives, get the dragon balls for whatever reason.

Short Answer: Star Wars

I like the DBZ story lines better. But Star wars is the answer here.

I'd support both but Star Wars has more potential.

As far as I've seen, Star Wars has a great deal more depth to it's universe. Akira Toriyama's work in Dragon Ball Z came off as a bit on the incredibly repetitive side in terms of what happens or the characters. Unless DBZ can get a movie off the ground that isn't entirely terrible - it's tough to argue Star Wars doesn't have a clear cut advantage here in regards to a trilogy.

Star Wars.

I think it's amusing how nobody has said Dragon Ball Z, yet.
