ComicVine Hunger Games Scenario 2022
Welcome to the 2022 edition of the ComicVine Hunger Games Scenario! I will be the host, and my co-hosts will be Owie and ProfessorRespect! All three of us will be known and referred to as the Gamemasters...
An unlikely trio of characters have banded together to test the power, skill, endurance, and instincts of various contestants. Whether by force, manipulation, or bribery, a group of 30 contestants from across the multiverse have been put into The Hunger Games, a glorious and bloody Battle Royale to the death. Death in the Games is permanent, and to the victor go the spoils...
Scenario Details
Characters
Each participant will select one street-level character to represent. Your character/contestant can be low street to high street. Powers/abilities are allowed, but all characters start without any gear. All characters will begin in civilian clothing.
The main rule to follow is that your base character (including their powers but excluding gear) must lose a majority to a morals on 616 Spider-Man (Peter Parker). If your character can beat Spider-Man for a majority, they are not allowed.
Character Limits:
- Striking Strength: Small Building Level
- Lifting Strength: 25 tons
- Durability: Small Building Level (Bulletproof against handgun bullets is okay)
- Reaction/Combat/Attack Speed: Casual Bullet Dodging or Bullet Deflecting (supersonic+, Mach 3)
- Travel Speed: Transonic (Mach 1 or below)
- Energy Projection: Small Building Level
Your character must be at or below all of these limits.
Banned Things:
- Reality Warping
- Time Manipulation
- Space Manipulation
- Luck Manipulation
- Matter Manipulation
- Power Copying/Stealing/Negating
- Speed Stealing
- Precognition (things like Spider-Sense are fine)
- Immortality
- Instant-Kill Attacks
- Internal Attacks
- Permanent Intangibility
- Offensive Intangibility
- Cloning
- Other hax that are too overpowered or unfair for a street-level scenario
- Characters with too many powers
Power Limits:
- Transmutation cannot be used on other characters or their gear but can be used against summons, fodder, and the environment.
- Intangibility is limited to 5 seconds at a time, with a 5-second cooldown period.
- Teleportation is limited to line of sight, and cannot be used to teleport more than 50 feet at a time. Teleportation cannot be used on other characters or their gear.
- Telekinesis and similar abilities cannot be directly used on the bodies of other characters but can be used against summons and fodder. TK blasts against the opposing characters are allowed.
- The lifting strength limit of 25 tons also applies to telekinesis and similar abilities.
- Telepathy: mind reading and telepathic communication are allowed. Mind control, illusions, putting people to sleep, and other psychic attacks can only be used on summons and fodder. This also applies to soul abilities, pheromones, gas, and magic-based telepathy as well.
- Summons are allowed but will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Regeneration is limited to 616 Wolverine level. Decapitation must be enough to kill.
- Invisibility is allowed but it can only affect the sense of sight.
- Weapons that extend from a character's body (like Wolverine) will automatically be reduced to steel-level quality if it is stronger than steel.
Furthermore, even with whatever gear your character acquires during the scenario, they must remain street-level.
If you are unsure about any of the rules/limits, please ask! It is better to ask in advance than to risk being disqualified from going above the limits or breaking rules.
We have been pretty strict about characters and limits, but it's for good reason. Keep in mind that using any feats that at least 2 of the 3 Gamemasters agree are above the limits or unfair will result in a warning and a minor consequence. You will have one day to edit your post and remove said feats, and you will have to deal with the consequence. If it happens again, your character will be killed off. No exceptions.
Actions/Roleplaying
A contestant can take several actions throughout the games:
- Attack other contestants
- Heal (There are various items you can eat or use to heal yourself)
- Scavenge/Build (After fights with monsters or other contestants, you can scavenge their body for food or gear)
- Travel
- Etc.
Participants can also roleplay as their chosen character, and a PM will be made for this. The basic background is that your character was either hired to take part in the Hunger Games, or was thrown here against their will. The choice is yours. RPing is optional, but you must RP as your chosen character.
Your chosen character will remain in character, but they do still want to survive no matter what.
Threats
You will face various threats and battles in this scenario. They can be one of the following:
- Fodder Threat: you or your alliance will face a group of fodder that you have to deal with. You can kill them, escape them, attempt to manipulate them, etc. Might not result in the death of a contestant.
- Boss Threat: you or your alliance will face a single, powerful boss. You will have to kill the boss in this case, as escape is not an option. Might not result in the death of a contestant.
- Environmental Threat: a scenario where the environment is your enemy. You may have to deal with harsh weather or just a violent environmental condition. In some cases you can do nothing and this will take away a move. In other cases you will have to argue how your character can survive. Might not result in the death of a contestant.
- Area Threat: everyone in the same area will be forced to fight the same threat. You will provide reasoning as to why you will survive above everyone else. This can either be a group of fodder, a boss, or whatever else the Gamemasters decide. This threat is guaranteed to result in at least one death for any contestant in the area.
The threats will be debated against one of the Gamemasters. It will be one post from the GM and then a reply post from the participant(s) on how/why they survive. Voters will decide on who survives. 3 days to make your post after the GM has posted. Any longer and your character will be killed, no exceptions.
Battles
Aside from threats, there will also be battles between contestants. These can be 1v1 or include several contestants, including alliances.
- Ambush: one alliance or contestant ambushes another. Ambush team has to make the first post, but they get the stealth advantage. Victim has to argue whether they can survive the ambush or not, or if the stealth can even be pulled off. No one has to die.
- Confrontation: a direct battle between two contestants. The contestant who chooses to confront will post first. In this case, the person being attack has to argue why he would win. However, the confronter loses any element of stealth or surprise. Someone will die.
2 posts each. 7 days to make a post. Any longer and your characters are killed, no exceptions. Also, no need for openers or stuff like that, just go straight into the fight.
Items
While the contestants do not start with any items/gear, they can get them through various means:
- At the start of the scenario, there will be a cornucopia with a bunch of items. Contestants can get a single item from there, if they wish.
- Items can also be gained from patrons (explained below).
- Items of other contestants can be taken once they have died. Their bodies can be scavenged for items as well.
- Items can also be scavenged from threats that have been defeated, whether it's a weapon they have dropped or using their bones for your personal use.
Alliances
Contestants can make alliances with others. Alliances will be determined by the nature of your characters and you will RP teaming up, after which the GMs will approve the alliance . You can share gear, join each other in matches, help each other, and heal each other. You can keep your alliance a secret or reveal it as you see fit, but either way, you need to invite all alliance members and Gamemasters into a PM. You can have a max of two other allies, for a total of 3 contestants in the alliance. Allies may also post on your behalf if you are unable to for whatever reason.
Be aware that if you and your allies make it to the end, you will have to fight each other. There can only be one winner. There will be no nightlock berries business.
Furthermore, be careful who you ally yourself with. Who knows if they will try to backstab you...
Patrons
If three Viners vote to be a participant's Patron, the contestant will be given a gift. They can make a suggestion as to what gift should be given, but final decision goes to the GMs. Any patron gift that a contestant has on them when they die can be claimed by another contestant. Patrons must give their votes in on the main thread. A patron can only sponsor a single contestant at a time. Once that contestant gets an item, the patron can then sponsor someone else. Patrons must have at least 500 posts in order to sponsor someone, and they cannot be a participant of the scenario.
Damage
Damage from fights will carry on. Damage will be allocated depending on how close the voting is. If a user wins by one vote, they will be severely damaged. Damage can be healed via food, medical packs, healing stims, or health potions, which will all be possible patron gifts and appear in the Cornucopia. You gain whatever weapons, equipment and gear anyone you killed had on them. NOTE* Food, Med Kits, Stims, and Potions cannot be used mid fight. You have to decide before or after a fight if you want to use them.
There are are 5 levels of damage. Food and med kits item reduces damage by 1 level; stims and health potions reduces it by 2 levels.
- Level 1 - Your character has minor injuries, like cuts, bruises, etc.
- Level 2 - Your character has moderate injuries, like gashes, sprains, etc.
- Level 3 - Your character has severe injuries, like broken limbs, stab wounds, etc.
- Level 4 - Your character has life-threatening injuries and are just barely alive.
- Level 5 - Dead
Your character can also be poisoned, depending on the threat that is faced. This will leave your character disoriented and unable to use any powers. One health item will cure it.
Voting
Voting can only be done by non-participants and the Gamemasters themselves. In order to avoid having alts voting, each voter is required to have at least 500 posts on CV. Gamemasters have the final say on whether a vote is allowed or not. Each vote must be explained to some degree, and votes based on obvious bias (personal or character) will not be counted.
Participation
If you choose to participate in the Hunger Games, I expect you to see it through to the end or until your character dies. I will not be allowing extensions for posts. Do not join if you don't anticipate being able to post on time, or if there is a chance you might have to drop. The scenario may take a few months to complete.
Lastly, in the spirit of transparency, I have started a checklist of people who drop my tournaments before they are completed/ended, and this will apply to the Hunger Games Scenario as well. I'll be using a 3-strike system, and as of now, no one has more than one strike. As a consequence, getting 3 strikes will result in a temporary inability to join my tournaments/scenarios. This may seem harsh, but people dropping tournaments/scenarios really makes it difficult to complete them, so this is the best way to hold people accountable :)
