The Little Mermaid: The Series (1992-1994)

The series "The Little Mermaid" premiered on CBS in 1992 and ran for 3 seasons. The series takes place before the events of the movie, telling Ariel's adventures in the sea along with Urchin, Sebastian and Flounder. It also shows her first run-ins with Ursula, making many friends in the process.

The Little Mermaid (1989)

Ariel was one of 7 sisters. She lived under the sea in the city of Atlantica from a young age. Her father, King Triton ruled the underwater kingdom.All of her 6 royal sisters were content with their lives, but Ariel wanted more. Her fascination with the human world led her on dangerous and exciting treasure hunts. Her best friend, Flounder, often accompanied her. This also led to her befriending a noisy seagull named Scuttle.

Ariel dreamed of becoming a human after meeting Prince Eric, and instantly fell in love with him. Her father disapproved, and destroyed the treasures she found in shipwrecks. Soon after, she bargained with the sea-witch Ursula, who promised to make her human for 3 days if Ariel gave Ursula her voice. If Ariel failed to make the Prince Eric fall in love with her and kiss her before the three days were up, she would have to return to the sea and belong to Ursula. If she did manage however, she could stay on land forever.

During this very eventful time, Ariel almost succeeded in kissing Eric, something Ursula didn't want. Ursula transforms into a human named Vanessa, and puts a spell on Eric that makes him fall in love with a disguised Ursula. They are to be married on Eric's ship.

With the help of her friends, Ariel makes it to the ship, where Scuttle breaks Vanessa's necklace. This breaks the spell and turns Ursula back into a sea-witch. Unfortunately, Ariel's voice returns too late, and she turns into her mermaid form.

King Triton trades his life for that of his daughter's, Ursula gaining control of the seven seas. However, Ariel and Eric intervene and fight with Ursula. Ariel attacks the Sea Witch, and redirects a trident blast to strike and kill Ursula's eels, Flotsam and Jetsam, instead of Eric. With her newfound powers, and incredible rage, Ursula grows into her giant self and tries to kill Ariel, but Eric dives the main mast of a sunken ship in Ursula's body, killing her.

In the end, King Triton sees how happy his daughter is and he uses his magical trident to turn Ariel into a human, and she and Eric get married.

The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (2000)

Ariel and Eric had a daughter, Melody. However, Ursula's sister, Morgana, appears and tries to kill Melody in order to get revenge for the death of her sister.

Ariel forbids Melody from going into the sea, thinking this will protect her from Morgana and has a huge wall built to separate the castle from the sea. This only causes Melody to resent her mother and run away. Now it's a race to see who will find Melody first: Ariel or Morgana.

After finding her daughter with Morgana, Ariel is forced to tell Melody the truth about her heritage, because Melody sees her mother in her mermaid form. Melody feels betrayed and sides with Morgana.

Melody soon realises Morgana isn't the good 'person' she claimed to be, and tries to save her family. In the end, Morgana is defeated and Melody and Ariel destroys the wall between their home and the sea.

The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning (2008)

Ariel's beginning is the third movie and a prequel of the original movie and TV Series. The story explains life in Atlantica and Triton's hate on humans.

When Ariel and her sisters were little girls the beautiful Queen Athena is killed by pirates. After the queen's death, King Triton quickly forbids all singing. Ariel grows and discovers her true passion, music.

Incapable of giving up her true passion, Ariel attends secret concerts, carefully eluding the evil Marina Del Rey. Ariel tries to find a way to convince her father to reverse his ban, before the heart and soul of the kingdom vanishes forever.

Kingdom Hearts

Ursula tries to use the Heartless to kill Triton and take over Atlantica, so Sora, Goofy, Donald and Ariel try to defeat her.

Television Shows

House of Mouse (2001-2003)

• Ariel is frequent guest in House of Mouse, appearing in several episodes throughout the 3 seasons and most of her appearances are cameos.

Sofia The First (2012)

• Sofia The First is a TV Show that features a new Disney Princess, Sofia. Sofia has an amulet that allows her to talk to animals and to summon another Disney Princess when she needs help. Ariel is one of the Disney Princess who is set to appear.
