Walt Disney's created his first comic characters back in the 1920's and they're still going strong today.

Some of his first creations was Black/Peg-leg Pete in 1925 and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in 1927, but he lost the rights for the Oswald to DC. He then went on to create Mickey Mouse in 1928. All three were co-created by Ub Iwerks. In the United States the Disney characters have had multiple publishers throughout the years such as Dell, Gold Key, Whitman, Gladstone, Gemstone, Boom! Studios and IDW Publishing, but the characters are grouped together under the Disney Publisher for easier identification.

While Disney comics are less popular in the USA they are very popular in Europe, being top-selling in many European countries. Several countries have had one or more weekly Disney publication as far back as the 1940's. Many countries also produces their own Disney comics particularly Italy who also has introduced many new characters to the Disney universe, most famously Donald Duck's super-hero alter ego Paperinik, or Duck Avenger.
