I don't think it has anything to do with SJWs since they generally dislike "labels" on sexuality but i think its a move to try to get SJWs/controversy to sell comics. Its not even about good stories any more as its all about shock value towards feminism or sexuality of characters while ignoring 50 years of continuity/history.

Yup as Iceman loved Opal as he shared a sexual relationship with her until she lied about the kid being Iceman's so he left her & went back with Polaris (IIRC) so i can't wait for Bendis to explain this hahaha.

Iceman is one of my favorite Marvel characters and while it doesnt/wouldnt bother me if they turned him gay, i think they way they brought it out was dumb and doesn't make sense with all his history with women. Thats like DC suddenly making Dick Grayson gay.

Iceman being gay is fine by me, but I'm pissed off by the way Bendis revealed it. Jeen outed Iceman, and even if he was the only witness that's still majorly not okay. Just because he might be happier in the long run doesn't excuse the fact that she violated his privacy, which, correct me if I'm wrong, is something she has been repeatedly told not to do over and over and over again throughout Bendis' run. I'm actually a little mad at how he just roles over and accepts this; I'd hope that he would've said something like "Maybe I am and maybe I'm not. But that's none of your business." Plus, is nobody going to mention how dismissive she is of his feelings? When he says "Maybe I'm bi," she jumps right in and says "No, you're more full gay" (by the way what the heck does "full gay" even mean?). Jeen, you're, what, 16/17 years old? When did you become the expert on human sexuality?

I really don't get what everyone thinks is so shocking about this revelation. X-men readers have speculated that Iceman has repressed homosexual feelings for at least the last 20 years (I remember reading it in the letters columns in the 90's).

It's not like every real person's sexuality is necessarily black and white: being attracted either men or women is equally natural, so being attracted to both must be as well. From that perspective, the fact that he's been in relationships with women does nothing to prove that he was ever not attracted to men as well, whether he was willing to admit it or not.

Lots of real people never acknowledge their attraction to certain people because of social norms; if you're already attracted to the body-type that society expects, it's easier for most to just never question that as their sexual identity. For a character with Iceman's fragile superego, openly admitting that he has those feelings would be more out of character than him actually having them.

If fluid sexuality is real, and it is, then there's nothing to make it out of character for any character, really.

I just don't see what the big deal is.

According to Bendis, they are the 616 original X-Men and in fact in Battle of the Atom Alpha, we can see Old Scott who ceases to exist, when a sentinel kills Young Scott. But there's nothing to stop Marvel to retcon their story, turning them into X-Men from another reality.

Doesn't make any difference, Bobby is cool as hell. And I personally like the work that Bendis is doing.

I still think readers will view older Bobbi as gay.They already were saying this before and now they have their match.I personally don't understand why.But after making Catwoman bi,Alan Scott gay and Psylocke bi I guess everyone is potentially gay or straight .

Bendis is pushing a diversity angle that does not work for the character. He could have tried something with Hank early in his run And developed it.

That's a good idea. I liked the whole original 5 idea at first, but it was kind of a novelty, and it's worn off by now, I want them to go home. But, they've gone through so much I can't see how that could happen without a total mindwipe or something that would make their whole time in the future pointless. So being from an alternate reality would at least solve that problem.

On the topic of the thread, I just saw the first few panels originally...the more I see, the worse I think this was handled. That shrugging thing she's doing is so awful.

I don't really have any issues with this, but that's only because he's never been particularly successful romantically, and his female relationships have always been odd - Zelda hasn't been around for decades, and his relationship with Lorna never went anywhere. I actually thought of all of the mainline X-Men, he'd be the one that could be the gay male member most believably. But whatever. It's another Bendis-ism, and I'm guessing he just didn't really know what to do with Bobby, since he wasn't angsty enough.

We can't draw that conclusion until adult Iceman is confirmed to be gay (in the closet or out) and given his history of genuine attraction, intimacy, and feelings for several women, I don't think that is going to happen.
