    Heart of the Matter

    • The memorial to Jetboy, aviation hero who attempted to prevent the September 15, 1946 release of the Wild Card virus, is bombed.
    • Ace detective, Jay "Popinjay" Ackroyd is hired by Doctor Tachyon to investigate.
    • Doctor Tachyon explains how he is indirectly responsible for the release of the Wild Card virus on Earth.
    • Eddy Shiloh tells Popinjay about Dr. Tod, the discovery of the Wild Card virus bomb and the death of Jetboy.
    • Chrysalis takes Popinjay on a tour of Jokertown that reveals no information.
    • Meanwhile a bomb is ticking in a bar high atop The Empire State Building.

    Diamond in the Rough

    • Croyd Crenson, the Sleeper awakens, and he has a precognitive vision of The Empire State Building exploding.
    • The non-powered vigilante Yeoman stalks the streets of NYC for criminals.
    • Popinjay and Golden Boy search for a bomb at Aces High, a bar atop the Empire State Building. Golden Boy successfully removes the bomb from Aces High.
    • The history of the Four Aces is told from Golden Boy's point of view.
