Ordered every Ghibli movie that the library offers, but I know they won't all show up at the same time. Ugh, I hate inconsistent marathons.

The boy who cried WOLF 1

I eagerly wanted to see this in theaters since I was already a huge Stephen Sommers fan (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns) so I had high expectations for this film. After seeing it, I was thrilled, but when the film started to digest in my mind, I couldn't help but see some of the holes. First, I love the concept of the movie; it's strong. The effects are beautiful and the wardrobes make me want to add more leather to my closet. But the flaws I found came down to the character development and pac...

From A to Zorro 0

This is a really good adaptation of the TV show and stories. Anthony Hopkins plays the original masked hero who then hands off his legacy to Antonio Banderas. There's just a lot of chemistry between the characters and they tie in so well to the story. The plot also comes full circle which I really enjoy. It's a true adventure film....

More Ghibli Magic 0

The movie strays from the book, but I'm actually glad that it does. The direction that Ghibli took it in was better for the screen. Of course, the animation in superb and the characters drive the story. I have nothing negative to say about it. This is truly a must-see film....

Ghibli perfection 0

One of my all-time favorite movies. The animation, character development and musical scores are all phenomenal. There is a wonderful underlying message of preserving nature and the creatures that we coexist with. Watching this movie makes you realize how beautiful everything really is, and to appreciate what we have. But it's not all moral, there's loads of battle action and ruin. In an odd way, it finds balance in the end....

Little girl, huge movie 0

Studio Ghibli has an awesome reputation for creating some of the best animated movies in the world, and Arrietty can be counted among them! The miniature world that Arrietty and her family inhabits is amazingly detailed. It makes you wish you could be a miniature person so you could explore everything in a whole new way. The perfect dreamscape to add to your film collection....

Don't......move. 2

This iconic movie almost defined the 90's science fiction genre with it's take on the Michael Crichton novel of the same name. I don't know a single person who can't name the movie based on the first 5 seconds of its score, or its silhouetted logo. But marketing aside, the movie itself is brilliant. The actors perfectly feed off of the intensity and urgency of the storyline, and the pace keeps everything together. This movie also raised the standards for animatronic and manual puppetry in films...

Go get em' Karl 0

There's nothing about this movie that I can say I don't like. I just wish there would have been a little more added to it about his history growing up with the Native Americans. Especially, the aspect where he lives in a tribe of people that don't use swords, but somehow he is now a master swordsmen even though there wasn't anyone to spar with. That needed some clarity. Other than that small inconsistency, It was and still is a great film to watch....

Cult Classic 2

This sweet little sci-fi treasure is one of the craziest films that I've ever seen. This is the kind of movie you watch with a group of friends so you can laugh hysterically together.Jane Fonda plays Barabarella, a space cadet who gets mixed up in the evil plans of Duran Duran. That's right kiddies, that amazing 80's band was named after the main villain in this movie. Educate yourselves....

Na-na-na-nah BATMAN 0

It makes me so happy to see that gold sleek logo on the front of my paper VHS movie sleeve. Ahh, the good ol' days. But all reminiscing aside, this movie is good. It's Tim Burton's first crack at the franchise and he did well. Now I know that this generation is tainted by the amazing performance of Health Ledger becoming-er, portraying the Joker, but if you were going to cast someone else to fill that role who else could grin that wide grin better than Nicholson? No one. Take it for the lovely ...

NOPE 0

I wanted to give this movie another star because they cast Jim Carrey as the Riddler, but then I remembered the shitty script they gave him and came to my senses. Not even the colorful black light plastered Gotham could save this movie from the fiery pits of film hell. The acting was atrocious, which is sad because they had an amazing cast to work with, but never let any of them shine. The story was, oh wait- what story? That's right, it's so awful, I've pushed it out of my mind to make room for...

Batman still can't turn his head. 0

The movie was great! I found Christians Bale's "Batman voice" to be a little comical, but other than that there isn't anything negative that I can really say. It's not the Batman from my childhood, and in my heart I think Keaton is the best one, but Bale brought a depth that none of his predecessors did. What can I say, rich playboy with a lot of disposable money, a personal military/ ninja gadget factory and a grudge. But that's Bruce Wayne for ya!...

Well, the Nautilus was cool. 0

Aside from some pretty awesome modes of transportation and steampunk undertones, this movie was rather lackluster. It's ok to watch when there's nothing much on or you haven't seen it in a couple of years, but there's nothing truly memorable or notable about the film. The character development seemed rushed throughout so it was very difficult to sympathize with their internal issues. However, I love the settings that this movie created, and it truly is one of the highest budgeted steampunk movi...

One of the best political vigilante movies 1

There's no point in getting into the political vs. humanity aspect of this film, but I will say that it was approached in a beautiful juxtaposition of inner turmoil and cultural harmony. The characters are complex, but understandable. V, himself, is one of the most spectacular characters I've ever seen on film. I could watch this movie repetitively for a year and never be bored of it. It makes me investigate every dark corner of my own intellectualism and empathy. I highly recommend that everyo...

Catwoman... in a sense. 2

This movie strayed so much from the original Catwoman story that I'm not sure what to make of it. I can say that it wasn't very good. However, it focused on the power and mysticism of cats and impressed upon their role in the transformation of Halle Berry's character, Constance. The main plight in the plot is concentrated on how women obsess over petty, superficial beauty. So you have the protagonist who is exploring the true nature and depth of what it means to be a woman, and the antagonist wh...

An ironic and suiting farewell movie. 1

This gothic romance, anarchy filled movie is, in one word, amazing. Brandon Lee's portrayal of Eric Draven is striking and I could empathize with his character. The story isn't very complex, but it is emotional. And who could resist the charms of Michael Wincott as the main antagonist? This movie definitely caters to the vigilante justice fans who enjoy watching the villains fall like dominoes. There is a sense of satisfaction in the end, but the whole circumstance still leaves you feeling sad....

Double dare you to be a good movie 2

There was nothing good about this movie. Nothing. Period. If you love Daredevil, don't watch this trash heap. Just don't. Ben Affleck should have his license to play superheroes revoked. Jennifer Garner somehow managed to transform Electra Nachios into Electric Nachos. Honestly, listen to that name and tell me you don't want some funky Taco Bell. This isn't going to be an serious review, because it's really difficult to take a low-brow joke seriously....

Excellent Burtonized Batman 1

This movie was my childhood, so perhaps I'm a little biased. I really do love the darkness that Burton was able to bring to the franchise, and Danny Elfman's music is so chilling it follows suit. However, there is one thing about this version of the Byronic hero that I don't like. Catwoman. I love Catwoman, and I love Michelle Pfeifer as Catwoman, but there was no acrobatic, kung-fu awesome to back any of her sexiness up. She was all talk. And while she had the talk down, she was just mildly mi...

Great movie! 0

Like a lot of people I am always really skeptical about remakes, especially if the original is almost unremarkable. But this remake surpassed my high standards and expectations. It doesn't exactly follow the same storyline as the 80's version and some of the characters have been tweaked, but it is one fun ride....

It is what it is 2

This movie lacked a serious storyline. The character development was pretty weak, and because of this I had a hard time caring if the humans won or not. It's obvious that the focus was really placed on the action and effects aspect of the movie. I get that that's what they were aiming for, but it was still disappointing. I don't think you need to sacrifice story for action. You can have both, but unfortunately this film does not. It's not as bad as other monster flicks, but once you see it, you...

Nothing but fun! 0

One of the few sequels that equals if not surpasses the awesomeness of the original. I used to watch this movie on repeat; everything about it is spectacular. It takes all the adventure from the first film and quadruples it. All of the original actors returned to their roles which I thoroughly enjoyed. If I start praising all of the wonderful things about this film, this review will never end. Just watch it, but watch the The Mummy first. These two films really tie together, and you'll miss out...

Nothing short of amazing 0

This is and had been my favorite movie ever since I saw it in theaters when I was 9 years old. Everything about it is captivating and adventurous. The cast is spectacular, each adding bits of humor and intrigue to compel the story. The plot itself is unique and well played out. I simply cannot laud the film enough. If you want to have a good time watching a movie that has all the elements of a well rounded film, look no further my friend....

A touching twist 0

Let it be known that even though I will write my honest opinion of the film, there's is still some latten bias because I adore Angelina Jolie, and Maleficent is my favorite Disney character, so I really stoked for this movie to come out. Having admitted my fandom, I really have to say that the movie didn't disappoint. The story was well paced, and even though it had few characters on the roster they each added their own flare to the film. The only things that bothered me were just personal wish...

One of the most underated movies 0

This movie took the animated rebel boy and his sassy bear friend into a whole new realm. In this version, the character's backgrounds are explained in more detail, and there is more sense of adventure. It also introduces the element of British colonization in that time period which adds a more believable protagonist into the mix. I also liked that Mogli isn't a child, and thusly has to manage more complex situations. This movie could be compared more to Tarzan really, but regardless, it's great...

Trash 2

From the weak and paper thin plot line to the script comprised solely of one-liners, there is nothing about this movie that is remotely worth watching, EXCEPT to make fun of it. The list of problems, both on technical and story levels is endless. This is the one movie that all batman and movie fans should vote to have written off from the batman franchise. I'm pretty sure even George Clooney didn't even want to make it. I don't blame him. Aside from some interesting costume designs, this movie ...

More Wrackage than Wrath 0

I loved almost everything about this movie except three things: 1. There is more footage of the other monsters than there is of Godzilla, and even his shots are obscured my smoke, darkness, or the camera angle. It got very old very quickly. If you're going to make a monster movie about the title character, than do it to it! 2. Ken Watanabe had such a horrible and pitiful role. He mostly stared off dramatically into the distance and gave maybe two good one-liners. The man was honestly worth the m...

A Really Good Action Film 0

Surprisingly, this movie was really enjoyable. Perhaps the trailer didn't do it justice or the hype was dull, but I expected a generic sci-fi, robotics-militia movie that just rammed gunfire and CGI effects down my throat. Not at all. The story really drove this movie and Tom Cruise's performance was reminiscent of The Last Samurai. Emily Blunt added spice and depths to the dystopic tale, and I enjoyed watch her and Tom's working chemistry on screen. Kudos. Good movie....

It left me wanting 4

Artistically, the movie was gorgeous. Scott managed to transform a new generation into another Giger-esk world full of primitive wonders and horrors. But I have a major bone to pick with this film in that it answered nothing. I don't think it was strong enough to hold up on it's own either without some heavy connection to the franchise. It made me feel cheated. One might almost ask, "What's the point then? Why even revisit the Alien theme if you're just going to obscure the lens with mud?" Is it...

Anthropomorphic racoon antics are fun to watch! 0

The story focuses on a tribe of raccoons that try to defend themselves against deforestation in Japan. It's because of this that the movie is bitter sweet. But it wouldn't be a true Ghibli film without a lesson in how humans tamper with and destroy nature and the effects that has on the creatures who coexist with us. On a brighter note, the characters were fun, witty and adorable. I really don't have any negative comments about this film, but be warned: there are small fuzzy testicles drawn on ...
