Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series created by writer Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons, and colorist John Higgins. The grouping of heroes and villains contained in the work are not, in fact, named "The Watchmen", though they were at one point referred to as "Crimebusters". Rorschach, Nite Owl and Dr. Manhattan were the team's primary heroes.
The scheduled hearing to deal with the Watchmen case has been canceled. Fox and Warner Bros. were supposed to meet with the judge next Tuesday, January 20. They have been in talks since Friday. Speculation over the canceled hearing is leading everyone to believe that the two studios could be reaching a settlement really soon.
We haven't heard any comments from the studios this week. Back in 2005 it seems the same judge ruled against Warner Bros. in a case about copyright ownership for "The Dukes Of Hazzard." That settlement cost Warner Bros. $17.5 million.
If Fox does get a share of the profits, it seems they should cover some of the cost in making the $130 million budgeted movie. The exact details when this is all over should be really interesting.
I'm still waiting until I can finally report that it's over and we'll be able to see the movie. We will soon be the ones to watch the Watchmen?
I want to see Rorschach take his can of hairspray, light it on fire and spray all these execs, lawyers and everyone else that has caused all this commotion over the release of this movie. *sheesh*
A "Notice Of Settlement Status And Request For Further Hearing" form has been filed yesterday. We may hear something more final later today. They still need to iron out some details. Let's hope it all goes well and quickly.
