    Growing Up Titan Style

I’ve been waiting for this issue for quite some time since Donna Troy has been my long-time favorite Titan. This issue continues to show the Titans splitting apart as they all discover news paths towards living on their own. For Donna in particular this is important since she’s accurately described here as being the den mother and big sister to the team and never truly being her own person. This all changes when Donna politely turns her back on her friends for a single night and accepts a freelance photography assignment at a luxurious hotel in Miami.   Write Mike Johnsnon, a confessed fan of Donna, manages to show a very powerful Amazon, who’s still not completely sure of herself in the real world, mostly due to the fact that Donna was forced to grow up so fast because of her life as a Teen Titan. When Donna realizes she’s fallen into a trap set by the Fearsome Five she makes quick work of her foes and finds time to flirt with a dashing bar tender who proves to be almost as heroic as our heroine. While I wish Shimmer and her gang of villains lasted as a longer threat, I’m pleased that the Five’s employer, Calculator, is continuing his revenge from the Teen Titans to the Titans – tying both series even more tightly. I’m also happy to see Donna permanently relocating to Miami, a fashion capital of the world in its own right and I hope we see her restarting her career as a fashion photographer. My only real question is, with all of the Titans deciding to go their separate ways, what will make them reteam in the now highly publicized new lineup of the Justice League? The answer should be revealed soon as all members are due to appear in Justice League of America #41 due in January.

I have always wondered about the treatment Donna Troy has been given over the years. On one hand she is usually written very blandly. Like the Mickey Mouse of the Teen Titans. Very noble with a matriarchal streak in her. Yet the reactions to her by her peers has always been one of great respect and sometimes awe. On the other hand, because writers do not know what to do with her ( at least since Marv Wolfman ) so whenever there is grave danger she is the first to be put in front of the bullet. ...
