When Being Bad Was Good
In an attempt to begin seriously cataloging my vast comic book collection (over twenty years worth of books take up a portion of my art studio), I've begun digging through my books and started to organize them. I recently came across The New Warriors #10, a childhood favorite, as it highlighted Firestar, my favorite Warrior growing up. I believe it may also have been my first formal introduction to Emma Frost, the White Queen, a then well known foe of the X-Men -- so unlike now as Frost has become one of fans favorite members of the mutant team. Here in '91, the White Queen and her Hellions have come to the Warrior's HQ in an attempt to bring Firestart back to the fold, whether she wants to or not. Of course the usual super team versus super team battle ensues, with the Warriors coming out on top just barely, but it's the Queen who's manipulative ways left such an impression upon story's end. That year was indeed a time when being bad was so deliciously good! This was also when Nicieza and Bagley were at their best game and this early run in the series still holds up to my imagination and excitement over a decade later!
