A Mix of Good and Bad
This issue is a mix of good and bad for the Hulk series. On the good side - for the first time ever, Stan Lee's pacing practically reaches the modern standard for action. A lot happens in this issue, including a big fight between Hulk and Boomerang - and it never seems to bog down. On the bad side, gone is John Buscema replaced by Gil Kane who, tasked with both penciling and inking, does not turn in a very well illustrated issue. And while I applaud the pacing of the script, the writing isn't without flaws as well, including multiple instances of situations that don't seem quite right given the circumstances - things like Boomerang throwing an explosive device into the Hulk when he's surrounded by a crowd, and no one noticing; or a dam being breached but a long delay before the torrent of water - etc.
