They need to make a story about Superman in the somewhat-near future, maybe 100 years or so, after, well, everyone is dead. It's pretty obvious that Lois, Jimmy, Lana, and hell even Batman will all be dead long before Superman is. I'd like to see a story about him dealing with that. The knowlege that, for as long as he lives, he's doomed to forever watch everyone he cares for die.
Superman
Character » Superman appears in 18942 issues.
Sent to Earth as an infant from the dying planet Krypton, Kal-El was adopted by the loving Kent family and raised in America's heartland as Clark Kent. Using his immense solar-fueled powers, he became Superman to defend mankind against all manner of threats while championing truth, justice, and the American way!
Superman will outlive everyone he knows and holds dear

Hmm, well still, seems like a good idea to me :P
@nickzambuto: He could ask mxy to make them live longer then again there are always lazarus pits for batman

There have been a few stories set in the future where Superman is still around and everyone he held dear is gone. But is Superman immortal or do Kryptonians just live far longer than humans under a yellow sun?
Superman and other Kryptonians, are not immortal perse. Under a yellow sun, they can ALMOST live indefinitely. Red Son is the perfect example of this. Clark outlives everyone until our sun finally becomes red.

Hey, I never said immortality was bad, just that Supes might not enjoy it. ;)

Ah that would make sense. Stars don't stay yellow forever after all.

Some versions age normally (Kal-L), others have an extremely slow aging process.
I prefer the route Red Son chose.

There is one good thing about the slow aging route. One of the original plans for the aftermath of COIE was to have the Earth One Superman stay and fight the Anti Monitor who instead of Earth Two Superman knocking out E1 Superman from behind and throwing him back to Earth. In that plan, E1 Superman died fighting the Anti Monitor and the E2 Superman promises to replace him. He then removes the grey streaks from his hair and claims that he had to find some way of making himself look older as once he reached his physical prime, he stopped aging physically. So that was the original plan for Superman after COIE but that was replaced by John Bryne's Superman: The Man of Steel series.
Wonder Woman will be too busy mourning the death of Bruce to even think about hanging with the boy scout.@nickzambuto: There are other immortal heroes, he could hang with MM and WW
BAZING.

Now that bruce is dead supes got no competition in banging diana
Schwinggg
@CitizenBane: I merely never understood the reason why they aged him. I know it was to showcase how much time has passed but if he could live indefinitely under a yellow sun, why should he show signs of physical aging?
@Lvenger: Wow, I never heard that.

Wow, that sounds like it would have been awesome! Huh, you know they could have done that when Superman got killed by Doomsday so we wouldn't have characters dying and coming back within 6 months to a year constantly.
@Smart_Dork_Dude: I know how you feel about death being overused in comics and seeming about as meaningful as death is in Dragon Ball Z. But there are some characters who are too good to stay dead for long and have to be brought back. Superman and Batman are two notable examples. Though I'm not sure how I feel about Thanos' rebirth. Bendis did have a hand in it after all.
@Lvenger: Exactly. Death in comics before Superman "died" was permanent. Death of Superman killed death in comics. The only comics I can think of where death is permanent come from indie companies.

Superman beyond.
aanother good example of Superman outliving everyone he knows and loves is Superman 1,000,000 (from DC One Million). He stays in the sun and then he comes out and resurrects Lois Lane. (true story...)

@Smart_Dork_Dude: Another example I can think of is Marvel's Ultimate Universe. Both Ultimate Wolverine and Spider-Man have stayed dead for now.
Isn't there some kind of story about Ultimate Wolverine escaping hell?

That was in the mainstream universe
I had hope with issue #0 of Superman Beyond they would continue the story of Superman in the future where alot has changed. Would have liked to see Superman either decide to stay on earth to look after his adopted home and its new heroes or to leave and find new worlds to call home. But I guess ill settle for the story of Superman Beyond in the Batman/Justice League Beyond series.
Superman Batman: Generations...starts with Superman and Batman meeting back in the 30's and follows them in pretty much real time with each issue being 10 years further into the future until it eventually skips to the far future where Superman only has grey hair and Batman is still alive due to taking over the League of Assassins and using the Lazarus Pits to stay alive...even shows their kids and grand kids

Well seeing as Superman fathered a several children with Wonder Woman. Then Batman died and Clark and Diana attended his funeral .

Hehehe, we have the same avatar, dude.
Or we did, before I changed it.
@spidermanandsuperman: only weakness is fire right? and that is if he does not go fernus...
immortal as in live forever if not getting killed (healing and shapeshifting)

I don't think Martians are immortal, I think they just live longer than humans. Technically, Superman isn't even immortal. If he lived under a red sun he'd die of old age just like any other Kryptonian.
@JSH92: well didn't he live for a long time in DC one million for sundipping?
given enough time MM could probably tinker with his body to emulate immortality
