Rumor Time! Jon Hamm to Play Superman
ThinkMcFlyThink recently reported that sources close to them let the site in on a little secret. Mad Men star Jon Hamm is being seriously considered for the role of Superman/Clark Kent. The 39 year old star has had a lot of success in his role on Mad Men as well as other films: Shrek Forever After, upcoming film The Town, The Day The Earth Stood Still, and Space Cowboys (He played "Young Pilot #2").
He may be a little bit older than the men who played the Man of Steel before him, but is that really a big deal? I think this guy looks pretty classy and I think he could pull off an already established Superman. We've seen the origin of this character enough times, and we've seen the younger version of him battle Lex Luthor numerous times now. Let's move forward into the future a little!
The team working on this film is the same team that brought you Batman Begins and the Dark Knight, except this time, their roles are a little changed up. Christopher Nolan could be producing the film, David Goyer will be writing, and word around the internet rumor campfire is that Jonathon Nolan will be directing. No official news on that yet either. What do you guys think about Jon Hamm? Could he play the part of Superman if this were true?
I do not buy anything a website says that has a "source" the people involved in these movies always take it one step at a time which is why we haven't heard anything about Batman 3 either they are in early stages so how can people get names being considered when there is not even a director of the film yet?
He's definitely got the look. Not too sure about the physique though. I think it's gonna take a damn good movie and a damn good Superman to redeem the movie franchise. There hasn't been a decent Superman man movie since Superman III... and that's only cause Richard Pryor was in it

I've heard some say that Jim Caviezel's portrayal of Christ would have an effect on the Superman franchise... would Don Draper?
To me, Hamm's acting ability is vastly overrated. The material and context of Mad Men is what made Hamm, not vice versa (constrast this against, say, Bryan Cranston who's talent was recognized even before Breaking Bad). That means this is casting based almost entirely on looks. As a type, fine, but if you had to nitpick certainly the age and the height are an issue. But if all you're looking for is a type and you're willing to settle for Hamm's acting ability then why pay more for a known star when you can find a better match amongst the unknown?
he could pull it off
not just because of the looks
but because he really gets into his roles
and that makes the biggest difference of anything
Many compare him to the Alex Ross version of the character that did not look young." Isn't he too old looking? "

I hear what you're saying about how he doesn't necessarily need to be huge, but at the same time people expect a character with super human strength to have a super human build. I don't necessarily agree with that, but audiences might
If he plays the "George Reeves" Superman then cool story...
P.S.
Beware the SUPERMAN CURSE! <- if you don't know what this referst to, Google it
I'd like to see it...
Hey, maybe he can reprise his role as Luthor too!
I think he wouldn't be a bad Superman - I mean he wouldn't be my personal choice. Besides Tom and Brandon , my choice would be Jim Cavizeal.
But IF Jon was to be Superman he definitely would have to hit the weight room.

" That could be pretty neat. Though, when the movie will really be in production, wouldn't he be over 40 then? "Robert Downey Jr. is 45 he was older then Hamm is now when he did Iron Man.
" @johnny spam: True...though I don't suspect Warner Bros wants to establish a franchise on a 40-something Superman.. Plus Ironman older is fun (he better shows tha scientist/rich dude-vibe) while a younger Supes would attract more kids (look at smallville!) "Or a younger Superman would repel some hardcore fans. Look at Smallville.. Hehehe!

Superman deserves Jon Hamm.
After Routh and Singer did their best to try to kill the Superman franchise it's time we went on a different route. No more Christopher Reeve look a-likes, make an older Superman. Superman is supposed to be the oldest member of the Justice League, Superman is the first superhero. He deserves an actor with as great a screen presence as Jon Hamm. Routh can't act his way out of a paper bag. PLEASE, WARNER BROS! GET JON HAMM AND GIVE US THE SUPERMAN MOVIE WE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN IN 2006, NOT THE SUPERMAN MOVIE WE GOT THAT WAS MADE FOR A 1979 AUDIENCE! THAT'S ALL SINGER DID, HE JUST COPIED DONNER'S SUPERMAN 1 AND TRIED TO PASS IT OFF AS HIS ORIGINAL IDEA! ROUTH WAS ONLY CASTED BECAUSE HE LOOKS LIKE REEVE A LITTLE.
NO MORE MOVIES FROM THE DONNER CONTINUITY, MAKE A SUPERMAN THAT I, AND MOST PEOPLE OF MY GENERATION, CAN ENJOY. NOT A SUPERMAN MOVIE THAT PEOPLE WHO ARE FEELING NOSTALGIC FOR THE 70s and 80s WILL. Most of the people who saw Reeve as Superman are in their late 30s, early 40s. Most of those people don't watch Superhero movies anymore. People born from 1985-2005 have lived through Dean Cain and Tom Welling that we don't really look at Reeve as Superman. That is one reason why Routh failed as Superman. He may have had a similarity to Reeve, but he didn't look like Superman to us. Reeve was Superman for a your generation, he's not the Superman of my generation. Welling took over that title, but Superman needs Hamm to save him. Superman should look like he can command respect from Bale and Reynolds, Hamm has that look. Routh looks like Ryan Reynolds' younger brother and Christian Bale's son.
Specially not Warner Bros, just check their history!
And, an exemple, Guillermo Del Toro had to make his own movie, produce and finance it, just to cast Ron Perlman as Hellboy. It was a huge pain to start the first movie and had to even make a more rentable move, Blade 2, to prove his talent and capacity to the producers...
(that's why they thrown in that agent guy in the first movie, to have a younger more believable actor for the audiance...who was kicked off Hellboy 2 since he made the movie himself instead of a studio movie)
