Memorable
This is one of the most memorable issues in DC Comics prior to Crisis on Infinite Earths (so much so that it was made into an episode of Justice League Unlimited). Batman, Wonder and Robin (Jason Todd) make their way to the Fortress of Solitude in order to celebrate Superman's birthday - which is not something that would happen in modern comics - and find him there trapped by the Black Mercy. Mongul is there keen on revenge after suffering defeat numerous times at the hands of Superman. The story takes off in three different directions - Batman and Robin try to remove the Mercy, Wonder Woman fights Mongul and Superman is trapped in his idyllic world on Krypton. As Batman gets more successful more and more seems wrong on Krypton until the Mercy is removed and attachs itself to Bruce (also showing his dream world.) In the end all is made right, but the resolution for Mongul is not the typical one for a villain. Overall this is a standout issue, if only a little dated at times.
