Contains issues 29-35.
Synopsis: After being on the run for some time, Zayne decides to go on the offensive towards his former masters by searching for evidence. However, another plan may be secretly in the works, and it's not from the Jedi Covenant...
This is it. Vindication is one of my favorite volumes in Knights of the Old Republic, and one of the major turning points in the series. Thanks to Celeste Morne in Vector, Zayne has finally got a good lead to expose this former masters, and he won't let the chance blow pass him. "Exalted" takes Zayne and his friends to the planet, Odryn, homeworld of the Jedi Covenant member, Feln. There, Zayne and his friends gather evidence, only to run into The Jedi Master, Feln himself. Later in "Turnabout", Zayne tries to find his way on Coursacant, only to find that Admiral Karath as the Republic fleet stationed around the planet. Finally in "Vindication", The die is cast as Zayne finally puts his plans into action to bring the Jedi Covenant down. However, Haazen has a plan of his own to take down the Jedi Order called, "Vindication".
Everything comes together in all three stories. More importantly, there is a lot of background explored, especially in the last story, "Vindication". Within that story, the true purpose of the Jedi Covenant is revealed along with the history of the founders of the order. One particular character that makes this entire volume so great is the villain Haazen. He was a Jedi just like Zayne: Someone who was weak in The Force. Instead of trying to better himself, he fell to the Dark side, though he bide his time to destroy the Jedi Order. With all the things Zayne had to go through, it's amazing that he didn't wind up like Haazen. What makes Zayne different from Haazen is that he tries to do the right thing regardless.
Another great confrontation is the Master and the former padawan, Lucien and Zayne. Throughout this series, Lucien loses sight of his goals and ideals of a Jedi, only focusing on the future. He starts to walk down a path that he was sworn to destroy, bent on killing Zayne, who still thinks will destroy the Jedi Order. Meanwhile, Zayne is moving forward with his life. Even as a failure as a Jedi, he still carries out the ideals of the Jedi Order (even with the influence of Gryph). While everyone have their own interpretation on what and how a Jedi, Zayne is what most Jedi should be.
Bong Dazo, Brian Ching, and Alan Robinson provide the majority of the artwork. Bong Dazo tones down his eccentric cartoonish style, and presents a more balanced look. However, he does return to his exaggerated style later, but it's in a backstory. Alan Robinson provides the artwork for the short story, "Turnabout", with most of the story shows space combat. The weak part of his artwork goes towards the characters. Finally Brian Ching provides the cover artworks along with the majority of the Vindication artwork. His coloring and shading are top notch, really bring out the emotions of each character. The action is great as well.
Overall:
Vindication is one of my favorite volumes of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. What's funny is that Knights of the Old Republic could have ended with this volume, but where's the fun in that?
