..I've been reading a lot of lists on Amazon recently, giving things like the reader's top 10 or top 25 graphic novels. Strikes me that there aren't too many Spiderman ones on there. you get your usual, Dark Knight Returns, year one Batman stuff and Superman red son, All star Superman, Watchmen etc. Just wondered why this is? What are the top Spiderman graphic novels? I'd love to know as I don't actually possess a Spiderman graphic novel yet, even though he has always been one of my top 10 favourite characters!

Cool, I've just ordered a Panini Edition of Spiderman "Life and death of Spiders Vol 3". Coz it was £0.01 on Amazon (plus postage) and got a couple of five star reader ratings. Will look up these others too. Cheers guys.

Kraven's Last Hunt and Death of Jean Dewolff are the major one's.

Also Origin of the Hobgoblin, and The Wedding.

Death of Gwen Stacy, and Saga of the Alien Costume are also very good, but probably aren't strictly Graphic Novels as they're more like collections of related material and they don't have a defined beginning and end.

If you're just talking about stories created specifically for trades that aren't collected issues, then the only one I can think about worth reading is Parallel Lives, which is more of a Pete/Mary Jane origin story than an action tale.

This. None of the books listed above qualifies as a graphic novel (maybe except for Reign).

Why isn't Parallel Lives a Graphic Novel?

Also Reign is just a collection of a mini series, no different to Blue, Deadly Foes of Spider-Man, Vs Wolverine etc

Under the current, general definition “A graphic novel, like a regular novel, is a stand-alone story that is published as a book" Kraven's Last Hunt would stand, as a story its very self contained.

@silent_bomber: I didn't notice the part of your comment about Parallel Lives, my bad. And I still wouldn't consider Karven's Last Hunt a graphic novel.

Hooky was alright, very odd as a Spider-Man story, and definitely polarising, but I thought it was fairly entertaining seeing Pete completely out of his element, and I liked the artwork a lot.

I think Spidey's best work is definitely in his trade collections though.
