Three different women have used the Silver Swan identity over the years, but all have one thing in common - all have proven to be a dangerous foe of Wonder Woman. Edit
Silver Swan I: Helen Alexandros
Helen Alexandros was a former ballerina who had become bitter by the multiple rejections she suffered because of her plain, blemished face and overall 'ugly duckling' appearance. After a performance in an ancient Greek temple, she cried out to the gods and is answered by Ares. Ares reveals that she is descended from Helen of Sparta - daughter of Zeus and Leda and then asks if she is ready to accept her heritage. Helen agreed and was transformed into the Silver Swan, a beautiful woman capable of flight, super strength, and a swan song that could cause terrible destruction. Helena was limited to transforming for only an hour at a time and only as long as she served Ares, but was told that once she destroyed Wonder Woman, she would become the Silver Swan forevermore.
Helen infiltrates the life of Wonder Woman in many ways. As the Silver Swan she helps Wonder Woman apprehend a gang of bank robbers. Notably, a briefcase containing secret documents that she and Steve Trevor had with them disappears. Later on, when Diana and longtime companion Etta Candy discover that rent increase has made it necessary to take on a roommate, Helen Alexandros applies. They accept her right away and, having coincidentally found the lost briefcase, Helen returns it to Diana.
When Wonder Woman later attempts to return the briefcase, the Silver Swan attacks. She successfully defeats Wonder Woman in battle, but is not willing to kill her with witnesses around. She successfully convinces the others that she thought Wonder Woman was stealing the briefcase.
With the help of Captain Wonder (a villainous identity forced upon Steve Trevor by Doctor Psycho), the Silver Swan defeats Wonder Woman again. Falling in love with one another, the two of them decide to murder the captive Wonder Woman in front of the president of the United States. Ares appears and demands that they also murder the president. However, Steve Trevor breaks from Doctor Psycho's control and Wonder Woman is able to break free. She promptly defeats the Silver Swan and saves the president's life.
Disappointed, Ares withdraws his powers from the Silver Swan and she transforms back into Helen Alexandros.
Silver Swan II: Valerie Beaudry
Valerie Beaudry was born horribly deformed as she had been exposed to radiation while in the womb. Because of this, she had no friends save for a pen pal named Henry Cobb Armbruster. Henry Cobb Armbruster turned out to be the head of Armbruster International, and he decided to exploit Valerie's need for acceptance. He chose her for the Silver Swan project, which mutated her body. Now possessing breathtaking beauty as well as a variety of sonic powers, Valerie became the second Silver Swan. Armbruster married Valerie as well, as a way of increasing his hold on her.
Armbruster used the Silver Swan to battle Wonder Woman and Ed Indelicato. Eventually, however, Wonder Woman and Maxine Sterenbuch, another one of Valerie's pen pals, managed to get trhough to Valerie and helped her see Armbruster for what he really was. Valerie then left him.
Wanting to repay Wonder Woman for helping her, Valerie offered assistance during the War of the Gods. Despite Valerie's great power, Wonder Woman refused, not wanting to put Valerie in harm's way. Nonetheless, the Silver Swan joined in alongside many of Earth's heroes in the battle against Circe.
Valerie served brief stints on the superteams the Captains of Industry and the Suicide squad, but eventually retired her Silver Swan identity. Neron offered her more power in exchange for her soul during Underworld Unleashed, but as she had reformed long ago, Valerie refused this offer.
Silver Swan III: Vanessa Kapatelis
Vanessa 'Nessie' Kapatelis had the chance to meet Wonder Woman at a young age. When Wonder Woman first came to the United States, Nessie's mother, Julia, invited her into their home. At first, Nessie was jealous of Diana's beauty, but eventually the two got to know one another and formed a close bond, with Nessie loving Wonder Woman as an older sister. Only a high school student, Nessie dreamed of fighting evil alongside Wonder Woman.
Nessie had already been traumatized by her father's death when she was a child, but she was pushed over the edge when her best friend Lucy committed suicide. She began to blame herself for all the bad things that happened to the people she cared about. Doctor Psycho began causing her to have nightmares and, to help Nessie recover, the school counselor recommended that Wonder Woman leave the Kapatelis house.
Nessie recovered, but could not forgive her mother for making Wonder Woman leave. Eventually, she would start to blame Wonder Woman for abandoning her. Circe, in conjunction with Doctor Psycho, decided to use these mixed feelings as a way to use Nessie against Wonder Woman. Employing cybernetic implants and mental conditioning, they turned the young woman into a killing machine - the new Silver Swan.
After defeating Circe, Wonder Woman tried to help Nessie recuperate. However, Sebastian Ballestros, who had been behind Nessie's initial transformation, kidnapped Nessie and sold her to Veronica Cale, a woman who hated Wonder Woman. Cale ravaged Nessie's body even further, making her her even more of a cyborg and sending her to fight Wonder Woman once more.
Defeating Nessie again, Wonder Woman begged Dr. Leslie Anderson to remove Nessie's cybernetic implants once and for all. Nessie was then sent to Themyscira for recovery. It is presumed that after Themyscira vanished, Nessie returned to the care of her mother.
Sadly, it seems that her battle isn't over - the Silver Swan is amongst the exiled villains in Salvation Run. She sides with Lex luthor when the group of villains are seperated into three groups. It is in this group that Lex had her attack Martian Manhunter (who was masquerading as Blockbuster) with her sonic abilites. She manages to escape with the other villains when Lex transports them back to Earth.
She next turned up during Final Crisis "infected" by the Anti-Life Equation.
