When the Hulk beat the Surfer in the Planet Hulk series, the Surfer was obviously in a weakened state during that fight. My question is how was he weakened enough to be beat by the Hulk?

He wasn't weak. He was about to kill them all and Hulk got his obedience disc removed.

I disagree that he was going to kill the Hulk. It has been shown in the past that beating the Hulk always came down to the manipulation of the Power Cosmic to drain his energy or simply blast him with it. During the Planet Hulk series, the Surfer was limited to only being able to increase his strength and durability and because of that and the Hulk relentless surprise attack cause his defeat. Korg mentioned the killing of the next pass not the Hulk. The Hulk didn't weant to kill someone he considered a friend and knew to save the Surfer and his new allies was to remove the disc. That's how I saw it anyway.

@Alpha: All I remembered was the 'one more pass and he'll kill us' comment, not particularly who said it. I'm just pointing out that the Surfer was far from weak, even without his Power Cosmic. I agree that without all of his powers, the Surfer shouldn't be able to beat the Hulk. As far as the comic goes, I wouldn't even really say that he was beaten by Hulk, like the OP stated.

Surfer has defeated the Hulk, several times in the past...let's get that part out of the way.  However, the obedience disk was causing the Surfer to act against his will.  The Surfer and Hulk are friends and always have been for the most part.  They fought together on the Defenders and share a common "alienated" feeling from the population of earth...largely being feared, misunderstood...or both.  When the disk was busted, Surfer was able to exercise his own will, which was to not harm Hulk.  Of course, by then, Hulk was amped and the tide of battle, at that juncture, had decidedly reversed.

I was just about to post that question myself. With all of the Surfer's abilities, whether weakened or not, how could he not simply remove the disk?
