Groo, too much politics with your comic?
Groo: The Hogs of Horder #1.
I saw this on Comixology, and picked it up the other day. It looked like a fun comic. Reminded me of the sunday comics all jammed into one book.
So, tonight I decided to read it as I didn't want to read anything heavy. Wanted a nice light, funny story. And that is what I got. Groo goes from town to town, searching out job after job just to make some "Kopins" or money. And then, seemingly, just for some food for himself and his trusty sidekick Rufferto the dog.
Groo is well known for destroying anything in his path. Not just armies or enemies, but towns and businesses themselves. So he's kind of a dummy, yet interesting to follow along with.
The problem I have with this comic is it seems to be taken directly from the headlines. All throughout it there are business people losing everything and hoping to go to the bankers to get a loan. Now how can they repay the loan? By raising prices on their customers. Also, they talk about in other towns you can get the same goods for a fraction of the price. So, they outsource to other areas.
It is just too similar to the whole bank bailout/government issue. And how America is seemingly outsourced to other countries to save money. I don't know. I don't think it is a coincidence.
I give this a 3.5 out of 5. If it had alot less of a political feel to it, I would have given it a 5 out of 5. What did you think about this? Was it to political, or just a timely coincidence? Maybe other Groo comics have been like this in the past, I don't know...
