    Creation

    Star Trek Canon Special Note

Not everything listed in the origin is Canon. That is because only television shows and movies are considered canon for Star Trek. This being a comic website there are many things here that are not canon. So unless it is contradicted in film it should be listed as part of the character biography.

    Robin Curtis as Saavik
    Robin Curtis as Saavik

Saavik was created for the second Star Trek film, and played by Kirstie Alley. She would later be in the next two films, played by actress Robin Curtis. The character was rumored to have been fathered by a Romulan posing as an important Vulcan aide. The plot was later intended to be recycled into the Star Trek: Enterprise prequel; either as the father of the character T'Pol, or T'Pol being the mother of Saavik.

    History

    The Wrath of Khan

When Saavik was at the academy, Spock was an instructor and took a close interest in her career. On her first voyage she and the whole crew were nearly destroyed when they became locked in a battle between their ship the U.S.S. Enterprise and the U.S.S. Reliant. The Reliant had been commandeered by a genetically engineered group of people led by Khan Noonien Singh. Fortunately, they won the day but at a huge cost in casualties including Spock.

    The Search for Spock

After her first mission she was stationed aboard another ship when it was destroyed by Klingons while she and David Marcus were on the surface. On the surface they discovered that Spock's body had been rejuvenated by the planet due to an experiment known as the Genesis Project. She brought the rapidly aging boy through puberty in the pon farr ceremony at least seven times. Marcus would later be killed and the rest of the skeleton crew would take Spock back to Vulcan to restore his katra, his mental life record, to his body.

Saavik stays on Vulcan while the rest of the crew were facing mutiny charges and the need for separation seemed logical.

    Behind The Scenes

The original plan to write the character out of Star Trek 4 because she was pregnant with Spock's child which was conceived on Genesis during a Pon-Farr session. At a convention Robin Curtis stated that she would have liked to have come back in the sequels with Spock's child. However their relationship was continued in novels Vulcan's Heart, where the two were married, Vulcan's Soul, and Taking Wing.
