1939
The year that Project Manhattan and it's German counterpart Uranverein started. Though in the same year, a much more insignificant minor project is created in Germany next to their nuclear weapon program. With the discovery of nuclear fission in 1938, and an amassing test group of human test subjects the "Unverkäufliche-Maschinen" program, codenamed "Gottheit" or "Godhood" is authorized and begins under a shoestring budget. Researchers had begun experimenting on the effects of plutonium and uranium on the inhabitants of their camps, the program would not see much success other than hypothetical theories among those interested in the project solely for the novelty of it.
In 1940, an unnamed metahuman kept in a facility in Berlin had a sample of uranium embedded in the frontal lobe of his brain for a month. Once extracted reports detail a crimson glow overtaking it completely, and the first man that had touched it even with a pair of gloves simply vaporized in front of them to a puddle. Project Gottheit moved from it's original purpose towards rather examining this enhanced piece of Uranium, the metahuman is kept alive and used to create more samples for research. The previous hypothetical theories began to become more than just hypothetical, as researchers studied their designs further would make sense when considering the new variable.
Testing truly began during 1942, as their theories began to be tested on subjects using the catalyst. Many tests show potential, however those tests are also the ones that ended the worst. Some subjects were obliterated, while some would simply cease to be without much of a trace. After a long string of failures, funding was severely cut for the program in favor of more practical war assets, leaving little hope of it's survival. Budgeting became tight and resources began to be recycled. One of these resources was one of the sole survivors escaped the failure at Stalingrad, a soldier of the 6th army named Kruger Hansvick. Having miraculously navigated through the near arctic conditions through enemy territory until rescued by a German patrol and sent to a military hospital, he had suffered frostbite over half of his body. Recovery was not expected, and he was waiting to be euthanized.
Rather than waste the needle, Krueger was given to the custody of the Gottheit Program and given the usual treatment of the catalyst. As it embedded itself in his temple however, the first variation from previous subjects had taken place. Despite an initial hesitancy from the original results of a violent seizure, Krueger survived once again.
Treatments began to come monthly, and heavy training between each. With each treatment, his body changed beyond any rational belief. His physiology changed to a point where he stood at 8 feet, and bullets had lost their effect on his skin, he began lifting full grown men, tractors, cars, and even tanks without even a hint of hesitancy. After the first dozen treatments Krueger began to project what was theorized as a degree of atomic manipulation from his eyes. This was discovered after the facility was complete disintegrated from Berlin in the night, causing Gottheit to move elsewhere to continue their research.
It wasn't until a year later that Krueger was exposed to a true battlefield. Under the alias of "Wolfhart" it was unleashed against the Soviet Army as soon as word came in from Berlin that shelling had begun. That very same day Wolfhart traveled from the Alps to Berlin on foot, arriving in 3 hours. Immediately upon it's entry Wolfhart rained fire on a Soviet artillery line. For nearly an entire day Wolfhart's atomic disruption ripped apart literally anything the Soviet defense could throw against it. The only thing that prevented him from dislodging the defense entirely was his inexperience fighting unarmed against a force of that size, dragging out what could have been an hour at most to taking over a day to do alone. Yet that was not the issue that allowed a Soviet advance. The predicted issue of exhaustion overtaking Wolfhart had happened soon after, and it had no choice but to retreat the field or risk capture or death.
During Wolfhart's rest, the Soviet force pushed against German defenses and pierced the Suburbs of Berlin. Once the Soviets had lodged themselves in the streets the task of removing them became enormously harder. For two weeks Anti-Tank weaponry was discovered to be sufficient to damage Wolfhart, as the first successful attempt took his already heavily damaged arm. This discovery was capitalized to knock him back along with the German lines. Krueger did not rest once in these two weeks, exerting himself indescribably more than he ever should have been. Despite the countless extra losses Wolfhart had brought to the Soviets, the combat managed to come to a head in the Soviet's favor at the Reichstag, though Soviet punishment had not ended, as Krueger acted as artillery from the Zoo flak tower overlooking the Reichstag. Through immeasurable persistence however, the Reichstag was taken and a Soviet flag hung over Berlin. Wolfhart retreated the city to return to the Alps, but had never made it back.
Stalin's greed to attempt a creation of a Wolfhart of his own made him ensure that word of the events during the Battle of Berlin never spread outside the Soviet Union. Those that had seen him during their attack on Berlin were told countless times by officers of the state that it was simply a prototype weapon, a fuse box, or an optical illusion until anybody that spoke of the event to their families and friends were simply brushed off as battle scarred. While Nazi damage control by destroying caches of documents ensured that no physical evidence would exist of Project Gottheit's existence besides a few unexplained melted streets and buildings left throughout the ruins.
He stayed resting in the German wilderness for the rest of the 20th century. Until his rest was finished and he awoke. Prepared to pick up precisely where he had left off in the war.
Abilities
Blitzkries: An effect caused by the catalyst procedure, atomic distruption. Activated mentally the ability deemed "Blitzkries" is a devastating offensive capable of destroying any form of matter it comes into contact with. At it's core the blitzkries effect is best described as atomic reorganization. The process in how it is used in combat varies upon how it is controlled. In some cases the target would face kinetic damage leading to a cutting effect, or rather an explosion of energy capable of an undetermined amount of destruction. In past examples, a swipe of atomic energy had been able to cut cleanly through a T-34, aswell as the humans inside without any sort of resistance. And on the other side of the spectrum the burst effect carried out by it has been shown to annihilate a tank into molten bits.
This sort of weapon is wielded by sight and position. Blitzkries can be activated simply by staring at an object, as this affects the eyes with a complete blue covering eyesight is not hindered in the slightest by it's placement. While one might consider getting behind as a legitimate tactic, the ability of blitzkries can be deployed outwards from the caster in a halo without sacrificing any of the destruction capability of the sight.
Blitzkries goes beyond offensive potential however. It goes as far as to manipulate matter itself, leading to the next set of sub-abilties granted through it's format.
Shapeshifting:Through the adaption of objects at an atomic level, Wolfhart has been able to alter his own appearance or the appearance of others through the procedure. The limits of the ability are nearly non-existent. In the past the extent of the shapeshifting has permitted an entire gender change, or altering his own physical form. However one major drawback clings to this ability. Sculpting a face, let alone an entire body through atomic manipulation is not an easy task. It would take at the very least an hour for a half decent body change, and ten for an "okay" face swap. If given a day or longer, the finalized product could be nearly identical to whomever it was based on. Only two other forms persist in his mind capable of being shifted to at any needed moment by Wolfhart, requiring no time to sculpt or consider. These are the same beings summoned through his more advanced use of Blitzkries.
Summoning: With the war's ending, the complete extent of Blitzkries would never be professionally studied. It was rather in the field that Wolfhart would discover that Blitzkries can manufacture what could be described as minions. These minions are about at a tenth of the capabilities of Wolfhart himself and can be summoned to the extent of 20, more are certainly possible but at that point it would be straining to keep that many in existence at once time without notable self-harm. Despite every minion summoned being nowhere near his own, this theory does not apply to two of his conjured assistants.
An aryan man and woman, are near matched at his own level. The male of the pair is named Hildebrand, the woman, Giselher. Neither of them is seen together at one time, it's expected that having the two of them at once could prove to be even more straining than simply conjuring a hundred minions at once. Giselher and Hildebrand both are precisely at Wolfhart's own standards, and the two of them both show signs of acting independently once summoned. Whether it be simple reactions to thing that Wolfhart himself had not seen, or their prowess in combat. Both of them are capable of speech if needed though those that have heard it have noted that their pattern of speech carries a vaguely robotic tone to every word spoken.
But most impressive of all about the two is their unwillingness to die. They can be defeated, killed, but that is an incapacitation for these summoned allies. Methods to neutralize one of them for good were deployed, and while effective in doing so for one occasion, in the next they had returned entirely unscathed and most of all, perhaps even more bloodlusted than they were the time before.
Architecture: Architectural purposes are the most commonly used function of direct matter manipulation. Near the end of the Battle of Berlin bunkers had risen in the middle of streets overnight for hopes of holding a defense. However the process of constructing pieces of architecture seem to not rely on available materials. Transmutation seems to play a role in constructing the blitzkries structures, capable of forming dirt to concrete and steel in simple moments. While impressive to witness, it is a simple fact that the work is only as good as the artist. In a nick of time, a spontaneous barrier could change the tide of battle. Yet something as complicated as a nuclear bomb or fortress is out of his league of work. That being said, with an extreme amount of time devoted to the process, the results of that process remain entirely up to guessing.
Enhanced Physicality: The first change the catalyst had caused in Krueger was an extreme difference in his physical state. After every treatment following that, his condition had only grown more impressive each time. After the very last catalyst, very few forms of traditional weaponry seemed effective against him. After walking unscathed from nearly everything in the Soviet armory at the time of World War 2, the only weapon seeming to do any sort of significant damage against him were anti-tank weapons, or sniper fire to the eyes. Unless those two factors are exploited, traditional military forces rarely saw any sort of progress made in usually ill-fated encounters.
Aside from an increased durability, Wolfhart's can run consistently near 300mph without any significant strike against his stamina. Once surpassing 250mph Wolfhart has been observed to have a nearly unstoppable stride no matter what sort of armor is worn. Easily breaking through nearly at obstacle ahead. This has been used an uncounted amount of times to level buildings and take shortcuts directly through forests without sacrificing speed. Like his speed, his basic 5 senses were affected aswell, most of all being sight. Wolfhart's sight after the treatment was enough to surpass a modern high quality scope. Capable of seeing entirely accurate at a distance well over a mile, thus being able to create a sharpshooter tactic with the sight operated weapon of Blitzkreis.
Strength was perhaps one of the most highlighted abilities in his armament. After his first deployment, Wolfhart's strength was finalized at 60 tons. Leaving him capable to fling any sort of war machine one would expect to encounter on a battlefield like it was no more than a doll. When tested against both of his summoned counterparts with an equal durability to his own, it was discovered that if no resistance was given the fist was able to work far superior to a regular punch, able to break bones with only a strike and remove limbs if pressed. However once an actual spar had begun and the opponent was capable to brace themselves for the strike, the expected strength of the punches appeared much more mild, causing only broken skin and bloody lips rather than the usual mess that a strike against an average man would bring.
