  • From writer Sam Humphries and artist Tommy Patterson, Citizen Jack is my favorite new book this year. Hilarious, irreverent, and filled with some of the best art in comics today.

  • A hardboiled modern drama from writer Ed Brisson, The Violent takes an unflinching look at a desperate man doing anything and everything to hold his family together. Artist Adam Gorham helps set the mood in panels that seethe with perturbation.

  • When you know everything, including everyone's secrets, you're bound to make some enemies. Writer Paul Tobbin, who previously worked on the surreal Colder, is set to tell one of the most original stories in recent memory.

  • Image calls it a "surreal neon-noir series crossing 50s pulp with an 80s VHS visual aesthetic". Call me intrigued. New to the scene writer Dan Watters is definitely one to watch.

  • Ales Kot's paranormal detective story set in a vibrant and dynamic Los Angeles, Wolf comes to life in part thanks to great art by Matt Taylor and the thoughtful work of colorist Lee Loughridge.

  • A genre defying romp through time, the art alone is reason to give Dead Vengeance a long, hard look. Bill Morrison has created a comic with charm to spare.

  • Tongue firmly in cheek, this quasi parody is nothing but fun, start to finish.

  • Power Cubed is your typical coming of age story, apart from the matter mangling, imagination powered cube that falls into the lap of the hopeless protagonist. Great style, great humor, Aaron Lopresti's best offering yet!

  • King Tiger is an amalgam of genres and is hard to explain, it's kind of like Dr. Strange and Bruce Lee had a baby and they named him Tiger. A visually arresting art style and plenty of action are among the reasons to check out this oddity from Randy Stradley and Doug Wheatley.

  • The Rook's been around a long time, no pun intended, and the time travelling crusader is back in a new series by veteran writer Steven Grant. Expect action galore amid all sorts of timey wimey dilemmas.
